Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has appointed former Republican Congresswoman Martha McSally to fill late Senator John McCain's seat.
"All her life, Martha has put service first leading in the toughest of fights and at the toughest of times, Ducey released in a statement Tuesday morning. She served 26 years in the military; deployed six times to the Middle East and Afghanistan; was the first woman to fly in combat and command a fighter squadron in combat; and shes represented Southern Arizona in Congress for the past four years. With her experience and long record of service, Martha is uniquely qualified to step up and fight for Arizonas interests in the U.S. Senate. I thank her for taking on this significant responsibility and look forward to working with her and Senator-Elect Sinema to get positive things done.

Over the last year, Ive traveled across this great state, meeting with countless Arizonans, and listening to them, McSally said. Ive heard about the challenges they face and the hopes they have for the future and Ive learned a lot. I am humbled and grateful to have this opportunity to serve and be a voice for all Arizonans. I look forward to working with Senator-Elect Kyrsten Sinema and getting to work from day one.
Senator Jon Kyl, who was appointed by Ducey in September to temporarily fill McCain's seat, is applauding the move.
"Because she currently represents Arizona in the US Congress, Martha McSally certainly has the knowledge and experience to represent our State in the Senate," Kyl said. "Moreover, she is highly energetic, smart and committed to finding practical solutions to problems facing our State and Nation. She is an excellent choice."
My husbands greatest legacy was placing service to AZ & USA ahead of his own self-interest. I respect @dougducey's decision to appoint @RepMcSally to fill the remainder of his term. Arizonans will be pulling for her, hoping that she will follow his example of selfless leadership Cindy McCain (@cindymccain) December 18, 2018
This story has been updated with additional information.
McSally can beat Ruben Gallego in 2020,but Arizona needs to be careful because it is a swing state now.
Yeah, she’s another Romney-esque GOPe slimeball, at least as I understand it from Arizonans.
But at least she’s not McCain’s “widow”.
will pick-up where flake left off. It is time for a new party, the republican party is part of the deep state.
Stay tuned. I know many here are not happy with her.
She’s up for election in 2020. Any chance of a primary challenge to her then, assuming she becomes a weak conservative Republican senator?
This turd just won’t flush.....
Congrats, AZ ! You got a RINO !
Meet the new boss!
Same as the old boss!....................
Unlike NoName, hers is at least an honorable military record. Not a big fan for the record; she’s a RINO.

Prediction: The incredibly piss-poor candidate McSally loses to Gallego in 2020 and Governor Ducey runs against Gallego in 2022 (and beats him) when his new term as Governor ends.
I believe that is also Duceys calculation and reason for selecting McSally instead of a better candidate who would win in 2020.
many people are disappointed with this appointment
but at least she HAS to be better than McShame or The Flake!
hopefully, anyway......
So does the Marine Mueller.
I wish he’d have appointed Dr. Wendy Ward instead of an anti-Trumper. I don’t think this helps the objective of MAGA.
You might change that to some Arizonans.
She also has support in the state from many conservatives. The contrast between McSally and and our other newest code pinko senator (who beat her) will be startling.
2 weeks as Jr Senator and then Senior Senator from AZ. But she must raise funds for 2020 and 2022 campaigns
But at least shes not McCains widow.
Man, when I heard that she may be in the mix I screamed at the news.
But hey, I’ve seen the pubbies do stoopider things.
A10 WARHOG - Fixed wing infantry pilot!
Ah, as I thought would happen, the old grouches came out in hordes.
McSally isn’t perfect, but she’s still reasonably pretty good, and beats any (D)—or perhaps the old grouches, if they didn’t have someone 100%, would prefer a (D) who’s 0%.
Be happy, insteead of whining.
Attention: Cat fight in Senate aisle...
