New York (CNN Business)The Weekly Standard, the magazine that espouses traditional conservatism and which has remained deeply critical of President Donald Trump, will shutter after 23 years, Clarity Media Group, the owner of its publisher announced Friday morning. It will publish its final issue on December 17.
The announcement came after the magazine's editor-in-chief, Stephen Hayes, met privately with Ryan McKibben, the chairman of The Weekly Standard's publisher, MediaDC.
"For more than twenty years The Weekly Standard has provided a valued and important perspective on political, literary and cultural issues of the day," McKibben said in a press release. "The magazine has been home to some of the industry's most dedicated and talented staff and I thank them for their hard work and contributions, not just to the publication, but the field of journalism."

Yeah. The “traditionally conservative’ tag was heavy handed for a rebranding of a NeoCon organ. His mom might have carried that moniker, but Bill sure didn’t.
Kristol finally can stop pretending to be a conservative. It must be a great relief to him. He will not be missed.
That will show Trump!
Anyone who supported the neo-con PNAC did this country more damage than good.
[”For more than twenty years The Weekly Standard has provided a valued and important perspective on political, literary and cultural issues of the day,” McKibben said in a press release.]
LOL That’s why its closing. Hayes has been a Never-Trumper from the beginning.
Amen. Bye NR.
I was a print subscriber to TWS for many years but I dropped them in 2016 for obvious reasons.
The standard part is what did them in.
Herr Müller
Maybe Jeff Bezos can buy them for a dollar.
Two years. That’s all it took...
Add “TWS” to the list of “Broken by Trump”.
Wikipedia’s history becomes a fitting Opus as it chronicles TWS’s spiral around the drain:
In late 2016, Kristol ended his time as editor-in-chief.
He was replaced by Stephen Hayes, the magazine’s senior writer. Under Hayes’ leadership, the Standard continued to be critical of Donald Trump; Trump’s supporters in turn criticized the Standard, and the magazine’s influence in Republican circles dwindled.
In December, 2017, The Weekly Standard became an official fact-checking partner for Facebook.
On 14 December, 2018, the magazine announced that it will shut down after 23 years of publication.
I recall seeing Hayes on Fox News before the big Trump-Clinton debate. He sounded exactly like a Democrat and when they identified him as from the Weekly Standard I had to LMAO.
Good riddance.
Mags are just about to go the way of 8-tracks, LPs, 45's, cassettes, and NTSC-TV.........................IOW, HISTORY...................
Billy Kristol, thought he was a comedian, a conservative trolling the most conservative president since the Beloved Ronald Reagan.
He happens to be the most egotistical moron ever to publish
in Washington.
This story made me very happy.
