Trump Jr.'s 2017 Testimony Conflicts With Cohen's Account Of Russian Talks
NPR ^ | November 30th, 2018 | PHILIP EWING

Donald Trump Jr.'s testimony to Congress about his family's real estate negotiations with powerful Russians does not comport with the new version laid out by Donald Trump's ex-attorney Michael Cohen, official transcripts show.

Trump Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee in September 2017 that although there had been negotiations surrounding a prospective Trump Tower in Moscow, they concluded without result "at the end" of 2014.

"But not in 2015 or 2016?" Trump Jr. was asked.

"Certainly not '16," he said. "There was never a definitive end to it. It just died of deal fatigue."

Trump's account contrasts with the new version of events given by Cohen on Thursday in a guilty plea in federal court. In that new version, Cohen says the discussions with at least one Russian government official and others in Moscow continued through June 2016, well into Trump's presidential campaign.

Cohen initially told Congress he reached out to a spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin and didn't hear back. On Thursday, his guilty plea acknowledged that he had heard back and that other negotiations with other Russians went forward.

When the NYT seems to exonerate you, it must be a huge stretch to pull Don Jr. and Ivanka into this.

He said, he said with a federal persecutor believing one side against the other is the mainstay of federal “perjury” raps.

Much of the Mueller investigation, and its grand jury testimony of witnesses is just such a staged trap - to find which two witenesses disagree on some matter that may be in common to both of them, and determine which witness “wins” and which loses.

“He said, he said with a federal persecutor believing one side against the other is the mainstay of federal “perjury” raps.”

That’s my point. No matter how innocent the conflicting statements, they can be used by a prosecutor to obtain warrants/indictments. And, as you say, a mainstay of federal legal pursuits.

Proving perjury in court is an entirely different matter.

“Why automatically believe Cohen is telling the truth - this time?”

Because it suits Mueller’s goal.

Cohen wouldn’t lie to get a plea deal to save his a$$, according to the DOJ. They will use this to do a Scooter Libby on Don Jr. and Ivanka. Look for Mueller to indict both after January.

The NYT headline is misleading. Here is specifically what part of Trump's recall "matches" Cohen--it does not include Cohen's claim about the prolongation of negotiations into 2016, per the actual quote buried in the article: "'The president said there was a proposal, it was discussed with Cohen, there was a nonbinding letter of intent and it didn’t go beyond that,' said Rudolph W. Giuliani, one of Mr. Trump’s lawyers, who with others negotiated the president’s responses to Mr. Mueller’s questions for nearly a year. He said prosecutors did not raise certain details that Mr. Cohen now says he misled Congress about — including how long the hotel project stayed alive — and that the president did not volunteer those details."

Instead of selling hotels, Trump ought to have sold uranium. He’d be in the clear now.

If he says 2014, then it’s obvious that he doesn’t know....not a lie....just something that he was not involved in at all.

“if he says 2014, then it’s obvious that he doesn’t know....not a lie.”

A federal prosecutor can characterize it any way he chooses to obtain warrants and indictments.

I doubt Cohen is telling the truth; but if he was, it could well be that Cohen THOUGHT he coudl still make a deal, while Trump Jr. had given up hope and was ignoring it.

Cohen’s claims about Trump Jr. are simply that Cohen briefed Jr. about what Cohen was still doing.

Jr. could have just assumed Cohen would fail again like he had failed in 2014, and therefore would have said that the talks didn’t die, but they were going nowhere.

Note taht Jr.s testimony does NOT say that there were no talks in 2016, it says that they never really ended, just stopped being productive.

Not for nothing....but the speculation of a future Trump Tower in Russia means absolutely nothing....and the dates are irrelevant.

Everyone seems to agree that the last inkling of the deal died in June of 2016.

Fine...The President won the nomination as the Republican candidate on July 19, 2016.

So when does Mueller obtain a warrant to toss Jrs properties and obtain all his comms?
And when will he choose to have the perp walk of the century?
/////////////////////////

Deep state in total control. Judges,DOJ prosecutors , DC juries, FBI investigators all coordinated to insure the people never rule again. They won’t get DJT they will simply destroy his whole family and everyone who politically supports him. The DOJ and republican party will never prosecute Comey, Lynch, Hillary, McCabe, Rosenstein, et al because they fear convictions will cause thousands of cases to be overturned due to contaminated prosecutions, trials and sentencing by the convicted government officials.

Might explain why Trump has not divulged the unredacted FISA warrants. If FBI/DOJ officials and complaint FISC judges are convicted many of the cases they worked on that resulted in convictions would be tossed and have to be retried due to unconstitutional domestic surveillance of American citizens.

Like Schumer said “These people got 6 ways to Sunday to get you if they want you”
