Correct. Zero qualifications, competence, or expertise.

just watching the Jep Propulsion Laboratory people laughing and acting like they were taking selfies for Facebook during the descent portion. Also a hipster wearing a derby hat as a technician at the JPL? WTH?

That and the childish touchdown dances were very unprofessional. It was very much different in my days during the Shuttle program. This behavior is very disappointing.

Eight years of a 24/7 news cycle of the “Me-Me-Me ...I ...I ...I” president will do that.

and then drill a deep hole and sit on it for 2 years ... exciting. Does martian grass grow as fast as grass on Earth?

They should just move the camera to show the flag the astronauts planted.

The sort of calm professionalism and decorum some of us expect is largely lost. ‘Tis a pity.

My son is a newly graduated astronautical engineer. He works at a NASA facility and was keeping us all posted by Facebook Messenger.

He works on a current satellite mission but I can’t imagine the stress among all the engineers and those in the control room over the last seven minutes after years of research and work.

Take that rest of the world. When you can land stuff on other planets, you can criticize the United States. Until then, you are welcome to shut up.

Actually, I thought them very professional during the
descent and only showed their excitement as each successful
report came in. Once touch down occurred there was a lag
in which there was not a lot they could actually do so
celebrate all you want. Amazing feat!

17 meters and then nothing? Then touchdown? I was waiting for 5 meter intervals, then 5..4..3..2..1.. touchdown. This seems phony as hell.

Event telemetry is not in real-time. We don't yet have workable quantum entangled particle communication. Transmissions from the spacecraft on Mars, traveling at the speed of light, take about 6 minutes to reach Earth.
