‘Robin Hood': The Biggest Blockbuster Bomb of 2018

Lionsgate’s take on Sherwood Forest suffers worst opening of any film this year with a budget above $90 million

Lionsgate’s “Robin Hood” is turning out to be this year’s biggest blockbuster bomb, with a $14 million five-day opening against a budget of just under $100 million. This year’s Thanksgiving weekend has provided the most lucrative box office ever. But even with all the record-breaking success, there have been some failures in 2018.

Most of those bombs, like Paramount’s “Annihilation” and Fox’s “The Darkest Minds,” have had low-to-mid-level budgets that have reduced how much of a financial hit their studios have taken.

Erroll Flynn’s Edison was filmed in a Bidwell Park in Chico, California—about 20 minutes from the Camp Fire. It’s one of the prettiest municipal parks in the nation.

If you want a good show about medieval England, watch The Last Kingdom season 3 just out on Netflix. Superior writing, acting, sets and costumes. David Dawson who plays Alfred the Great is outstanding. And no PC crap.

Pretty sad when a movie is so bad it’s not even worth stealing a copy.

Oh I LOVE that one and it is a different kind of ROBIN HOOD!

I've been crazy for the story since I was a very little kid and have done a lot of research on the "real" Robin Hood ( yes, there were a few whose composite and lots of fiction, make up the story we all think we know )and that era.

The very best of the lot, is the Flynn one; though the Brit T.V. series, starring Richard Green is a close second.

Once the movies threw in PC "diversity" into the mix, no matter what else they did, THAT completely ruins the whole thing! There were NO blacks in England back then, the Muslims forces, whom the crusaders fought in "THE HOLY LAND" contained NO, nada, ziltch, bupkis, zero Negroids; NOT A SINGLE, SOLITARY ONE...full stop, period!

It's a COMPOSITE; there actually WAS a sort of Robin Hood, way back when.

Would you like a book list of the books written about this topic?

There is another Robin Hood with Sean Connery as an older Robin & I don’t remember who played Marion, but it was very entertaining.

It was extraordinary how clean everyone was in that movie and their perfect hairdos.

That's because it was a "storybook" approach to the story in blazing technicolor. The Adventures of Robin Hood is easily in my top 3 movies of all time list. From what I have read of the medieval period, I would not want more realism. We 21st century types would probably die from the stench of the 12th century. I'll take the technicolor version any day.

A lot of the modern movies about the middle ages do show the filth and brutality. Try Braveheart, especially the execution scene.

I don’t think this clip shows the ramps dropping and the mounted knights riding down into the water, but you can see the landing craft in different shots.

First saw Jamie Foxx on "In Living Color". Whenever he tries to do drama this role always comes to mind...
