France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has called for Europe to become an “empire” to compete with the United States after the country’s President Emmanuel Macron called for an EU army to defend against the NATO ally.

The EU is unraveling. Brexit negotiations are about done. Countries like Poland and Hungary refuse to accept Muslim refugees despite threatened fines by the EU. Merkel is being forced off the world stage. Macron wants to pick up the baton, but he lacks the credibility to do so.

For many, many years France was a non-participating NATO member preferring to go its own way with its "force de frappe." French nationalism was always paramount and still is. The French even have a government bureau that decides what foreign phrases will be accepted into the language or changed into French.

Macron's Orwellian use of words to define nationalism and patriotism is laughable. “War is peace / freedom is slavery [and] ignorance is strength.”

My first thought. What seemed a great puzzle now seems to be slowly but surely forming into reality.

Sure, we can laugh now, but the plan has been very publicly floated. It may take some minor, or not so minor, cataclysmic event to spark the implementation, but the pathway has now been set and we are on our way.
