Voters in WA State Pass Massive Gun Control Initiative

For months, gun control advocates in Washington State have peddled initiative 1639, which moves to create stricter firearms laws. On Tuesday, 60 percent of Washingtonians voted in favor of ballot measure, the Seattle Times reported.

Specifically, i-1639 will:

• Raise the age someone can purchase a rifle to 21. • Create an "enhanced background check system similar to what is used for handguns." • Require a person to complete a firearms safety training course. • Create a common stand for secure gun storage.

Those in favor of the measure believe that even further gun laws will prevent mass shootings.

“My generation has been defined by gun violence. We have been defined by continued and repeated inaction by our elected officials,” Stephen Paolini, 22-year-old campaign manager for 1-1639, told supporters on Tuesday. “I hope tonight this victory is a message to our elected officials: Enough is enough.”

Alan Gottlieb, the Founder and Executive Vice President of the Second Amendment Foundation, said he's prepared to go to court to challenge the legality of the measure.

In NYS, if gun owners all voted against gun confiscator Andy Cuomo he would lose, but they don’t - incredible.

In my county and where my folks live it’ll take up to forty-five minutes for a cop to arrive provided they’re not somewhere else. So are the forces that be will come and inspect every dwelling for compliance? Here come the boating accidents.

I have no idea since I don’t have the voter pamphlet handy. OTOH this isn’t over yet. Seattle and environs think they rule the state.

Probably “common standard”. Nowadays, if it passes spell check, it gets published. Sometimes not even spell check.

Reporting has joined the ranks of the low-skill trades.

Rural counties and constituents are more and more NOT being represented by those (s)elected by the YUGE population centers.

Unfortunately this is true throughout the nation. Here's the breakdown in the Washington vote:

Example of the Senate race in Nevada:

The same idiots believe laws prevent crime.

"Anyone think he’ll get another appointment through? "

Yes, all of them. The House has no say over appointments. The Republicans retained control of the Senate, which does.

I read the measure this morning, as I have family in Washington...there will not be “Inspections”...it seems the effect of the measure is that IF a crime gets committed with a gun that was not locked up, then they will go after the gun owner also...JUST FYI...Also requires safety training. And, those under 21 can buy rifles, but not other weapons. JUST FYI...Don’t kill the messenger.

The House has no say in confirming appointments.

As a Washingtonian...I will not comply.

Same here but since my tragic boating accident its no longer a problem.

This is sadly all too true.

But more important, the AntiFa twits will become even more emboldened and violent. They are the real whirlwind from sowing the Leftist wind.

Also requires safety training.

I wonder what they have in mind? I hope its not like the Washington State boating safety training that everyone who operates a watercraft must take.

Its online training and takes about 12 hours to complete. Its designed to bore you to death with completely useless information that you will never need.

I expect something similar.

Thanks. I remember reading the initiative but didn’t have all the facts down. We always lock up our guns when not at home but readily available when we are.
