Karina Vetrano was viciously beaten and strangled "until she could not struggle anymore" -- then, in a final indignity, the 30-year-old New Yorker's body was left naked in a weed-covered patch of land, where her executioner robbed her and fled.
Prosecutors on Tuesday revealed the gruesome details of the Queens joggers August 2016 assault and murder, as the trial of her accused killer, Chanel Lewis, got underway. Vetrano's mother, Cathie Vetrano, was in the courtroom as Queens Assistant District Attorney Brad Leventhal recounted the graphic details, and was seen sobbing and clutching a crucifix, according to the New York Daily News.
Leventhal said Vetrano tried to fight off Lewis.
And he strangled her until she could not struggle anymore. He strangled her until she was dead, Leventhal said.
Photos from the crime scene of Vetranos naked body were shown in court.
Leventhal said, after Lewis killed Vetrano, he carried her body into a weed-covered area, removed her sneakers and took her phone and earbuds. ..."
Vetrano was attacked as she jogged in Spring Creek Park, not far from her home in Queens Howard Beach.

A Queens grand jury Wednesday handed up an indictment against the Brooklyn man arrested in the rape and murder of jogger Karina Vetrano in August on charges including murder.
The indictment charges Chanel Lewis, 20, with four counts of first-degree murder, five counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse in connection with the 30-year-old's death.
Lewis faces life behind bars without the possibility of parole if convicted. He will be arraigned on the indictment at a later date.
The raven-haired stunner Vetrano was last seen before her run on August 2, 2016, when she headed out onto a park trial near her Howard Beach home alone.
Cops say Lewis attacked her as she ran through the marshy area, and then sexually abused and strangled her.
Her remains were later discovered by her concerned father, who found Vetrano's beaten body 15 feet off the path, with her running shorts pulled down.
Lewis was nabbed in February after DNA evidence placed him at the scene.
While the young Brooklyn man's family maintain their son's innocence, Lewis purportedly told cops he killed Vetrano because he was "angry."
"I was angry. I had some issues at home. I just lost it. When I saw her, I just hit her and kept hitting her. I hit her and choked her," he allegedly admitted after his arrest.

He looks like the poster boy for Fetal alcohol syndrome.
He had some issues so he beat and strangled a woman to death and robbed her dead body?
We need to apply the death penalty, expedite the appeal process and then swiftly carry out the executions while people can still remember the crime
And if you dare...
Prayers up for her Mom and Dad.
FAS - maybe around the eyes, but not the mouth.
Death penalty for this brutal animal!
Not a fan of the mafia but hopefully someone can reach out and “touch” him wherever he ends up.
We had a daytime jogger murdered here in MA 2 years ago——by a delightful Puerto Rican psycho.
.
Feral POS!
It looks like the father is with NY Fire Department. Maybe he has connections with PD and maybe connections to inmates who may be of some “help”.
Deserves Death Penalty, but since it’s liberal NY they might give it, but like Cali never use it.
I guess Fox News thought it would cause too much racial animus to mention in the headline, first paragraph or anywhere in the story that the victim was raped.
Disgusting.
He looks like he's fifteen.
” I had some issues at home. “
He’s going to have some bigger issues in the Aryan Nation wing of the joint during his 6 month New York sentence.
So sorry for her family. My daughter goes to college this year. I was political incorrect with her all the time. Im feeling I did not do enough to have her vigilant
