It was not the first death reported at USP Hazelton. According to the Associated Press, an inmate at the prison was killed in a fight in September, and another inmate was killed in a fight there in April.

Whitey won’t be coming down for breakfast....
In 1956, Bulger served his first term in federal prison when he was sentenced to time in Atlanta Penitentiary for armed robbery and truck hijacking. He later told mobster Kevin Weeks that while there, he was involved in the MK-ULTRA program, the goal of which was to research mind-control drugs for the CIA. For 18 months, Bulger and 18 other inmates, all of whom had volunteered in return for reduced sentences, were given LSD and other drugs. Bulger later complained that they had been "recruited by deception" and were told they were helping to find "a cure for schizophrenia". He described his experience as "nightmarish" and said it took him "to the depths of insanity.
Need to investigate if Mueller ordered the hit. Mueller had 3 people imprisoned for 20 years to cover his relationship with Bulger.
bttt
I was living up in Boston when Whitey was finally captured. The Howie Carr show that day was a celebration. Howie sounded like he was 20 years younger and I'm pretty sure he was tap-dancing deep into the night.
I was old before I ever heard the name. He is nothing.
Whitey, you won't see him no more.
Will they charge the guy who killed Bulger with homicide or with homicide?

Reminds me of when National Review was a good, readable mag: when they announced the obit of a famous person, their final line was “He (or she) will be missed”. When Bella Abzug died, they wrote “She will not be missed”. Feel the same way about Bulger; the way he was snuffed out reminds me of the scene set to classical music in Breaking Bad where they wiped out nine potential informants in three separate prisons all at the same time.
Mueller mourns
I’m watching a replay of today’s Howie Carr show. First time I’ve ever seen Howie in a suit and tie! Grace looks gorgeous, as usual.
And she wasn't. She, and her ridiculous hats, disappeared without a trace.
Except for that silly congresswoman from Florida who uses the same stunt to get noticed by her constituents.
8 April: Newsmax: Alan Dershowitz Rips Special Counsel Mueller as ‘a Partisan and Zealot’

Ripping FBI special counsel Robert Mueller as a political “zealot,” Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz reminded staunch Mueller supporters about the former FBI director’s role in protecting “notorious mass murderer” Whitey Bulger as an FBI informant.
“I think Mueller is a zealot,” Dershowitz told “The Cats Roundtable” on 970 AM-N.Y.
“I don’t think he cares whether he hurts Democrats or Republicans, but he’s a partisan and zealot.
“He’s the guy who kept four innocent people in prison for many years in order to protect the cover of Whitey Bulger as an FBI informer. Those of us in Boston don’t have such a high regard for Mueller because we remember this story. The government had to pay out tens of millions of dollars because Whitey Bulger, a notorious mass murderer, became a government informer against the mafia.
“And that’s regarded in Boston of one of the great scandals of modern judicial history. And Mueller was right at the center of it. So, he is not without criticism by people who know him in Boston.”...
