These are effectively monopolies. Not only do they utterly dominate their own sectors, but they can get what puny competitors they do have shut down.
You are thinking about it wrong. Jim owns the server, but he does not own the host. They are two separate entities. You can have all the servers you want, but without a pipeline to the internet then they won’t do you any good.
What other web sites did the shooter use? Twitter? Facebook? Gmail? Youtube? Better shut them all down.
