Here's a sampling of headlines today from what are generally respected outlets:
Buzzfeed: "Taylor Swift's Instagram Post Has Caused A Massive Spike In Voter Registration"
Daily Beast: "Taylor Swift: Voter Registration Spike Follows Stars Political Awakening"
Washington Post: "Taylor Swifts endorsement of Democrats causes spike in voter registrations"
Variety: "Taylor Swifts Political Comments Lead to Spike in Voter Registration"
I'd give the Daily Beast a little credit for hedging some, but then there's the lede: "Taylor Swifts first foray into politics appears to have produced impressive results." All the outlets made the same argument: that, a.) there was an increase in voter registration in the time period following Taylor Swift's Instagram post urging people to register to vote for a Brett Kavanaugh supporter and b.) Swift caused that surge.
But of course correlation does not imply causation, much though the media tends to struggle with that concept. The evidence presented in all these pieces doesn't actually go a step further and prove that the surge of registrations on Vote.org was caused by Swift. On the contrary, some of the pieces allude to a compelling alternative explanation.

The Swamp Media is trying to throw another election with their propaganda.
The DNC Media Complex wants you to believe that over a weekend young Women were rushing out to register Demonrat. Yeah-Meet-Right.
Oh, let them think that. The voting results in November are what will count.
Taylor Swift’s music (and other new country these days) is for people not old enough to go into the country bars and honky tonks.
Who says all these new registrations or Democrat? Since Taylor Swift lives in the heart of a red State, a very red State, perhaps she incited Republicans to register.
More fake news.
LOL, who didn’t see this disclaimer coming?
Why would she. Shes irrelevant
of course there isn’t.
this is all interweb rumormongering.
utter crap, swallowed whole by the media.
They’re just doing their part to make the over 100% returns sound plausible this time.
To me it’s like when they announce the market is down due to ________. They get to fill in the blank with whatever suits their agenda.
I saw this claim from vote.org
Who is vote.org?
Why would they have any particular knowledge?
Could it be that there is a surge of voter registrations after the Kavanaugh affair? How can they attribute changing in registration rates to a certain factor?
Do they even have any data, or are they just making it up as they go along?
And Trump has been saying in rallys recently to vote so that could have triggered many to register too!
