At 12:30 in the afternoon on September 27, I dont think there were many serious political thinkers or activists on the Right who thought Brett Kavanaugh would survive that mornings testimony by his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.
Eight days latertodayKavanaugh all but secured his appointment. The question is, how did this happen. The answer is: Kavanaugh happened.
In his unprecedented speech following Fords testimony, Kavanaugh not only blasted the process but made no pretense when it came to those who had manipulated itliberal groups, people angry with Donald Trump, people wanting to take revenge for the Clintons. The speech electrified the right. There is no other word for it.
It was this very speech that caused so much tut-tutting and concern about Kavanaughs judicial temperament among the very people who were already opposing him for any and every reasonand among those who instinctively feel the need to beg for mercy and seek absolution any time anything a conservative says or does puts liberals in high dudgeon. But everything that triggered those people turned Kavanaugh into what he had not been beforea cause.
The idea he was attempting to convey was that the career-destroying and reputation-destroying forces that been activated against him were singing from an old hymnal. They were seeking to ruin him to deny the views he might have shared with conservative Republicans their place on the Court. They wished to invalidate conservative views through any means necessary, including the deployment of a horrific charge made without any supporting evidence.
For Republicans and conservatives with a long memory, this was not just about Kavanaugh. It was about Bob Bork, and the near destruction of Clarence Thomas, and the illegitimate prosecution of Reagan Labor Secretary Ray Donovan...

Let us face reality.
If not for Collins holding firm and flakey Flake being shamed into living up to his agreement that his Vote hinged on the Supplemental FBI Report (he insisted on to secure his support), we would be on the other side of the fence venting our righteous anger.
That being said, after riding this Rollercoaster I will not rest easy until the deciding Aye Vote is cast. I wouldn’t put it past the Commies to call in a Bomb Threat or do something else to delay the final Vote.
**For Republicans and conservatives with a long memory, this was not just about Kavanaugh. It was about Bob Bork, and the near destruction of Clarence Thomas, and the illegitimate prosecution of Reagan Labor Secretary Ray Donovan, who was left to ask how he could get his reputation back when a garbage case against him fell apart.**
So true!
You’re right!
Yep - and you can tell by looking at the feminazis' protest banners and posters. Lindsey Graham is vividly featured in some of the most unflattering caricatures that I've seen since Trump won the election.
The dems lost the game the moment Whitehouse ventured into the high school yearbook topic of farts.
This is wrong and this is why this article describes as a surprise what wasn't a surprise.
GOPeers and conservatives have not been fighting against the evil forces of the neo-Bolsheviks for 40 years. They have barely been fighting at all. The closest we ever had to a real fighter were RR and WFB, and even they were awfully polite. I never thought that the democrats would win. I had confidence that with 60 million ticked off deplorables behind K and Trump, we would eventually prevail.
We knew Trump knew the score. He called it the con job that we could all see. What turned the tide was that we made it clear that if this conjob succeeded, the GOP was dead meat, not just a very comfortable minority, but a minority so meagre that the democrats never need give them anything ever again. And then, with fear in there hearts, Trump could lead them to the counter-attack.
You think K's speech was not blessed by Trump. Sure they were his words, from the heart.
...serious political thinkers or activists on the Right who thought...
What exactly is an "activist on the Right"? Do you consider yourself an "activist on the Right"?
How many windows did you break or liberals terrorize? Scream at an innocent bystander in a restaurant or chase someone you disagree with down the street recently? People who thoughtfully consider evidence and make sincere choices can't rationally be considered "activists on the Right." They're merely citizens; perhaps even patriots. Activists? Not so much.
Wonder whom he had in mind.
I haven’t heard this “speech for the ages”. There is no link to it in the article or comments here.
Where is this speech?
bttt
True that.
Someone who hasn't spent their entire career in the swamp, perhaps?
Upon a couple additional readings and in retrospect, I see where you are coming from. In fact, it may have been a deliberate choice on the part of this author to make me think.
