A spokesperson for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) asserted that some of the remaining conditions to be determined for Thursdays hearing are non-negotiable.
Lawyers for Christine Blasey Ford announced earlier Sunday that she was committed to appearing in an open hearing of the committee to testify about her allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
But the statement from Blasey Fords team noted committee Republicans refusal to invite other alleged witnesses of the assault to give testimony, and said it was unresolved whether senators or staff attorneys for the majority would be asking questions at the hearing.
The chairmans spokesperson appeared to respond to that point Sunday, writing: I have noted the issues that you raised on the call. But again, as with any witness who comes before the Senate, the Senate Judiciary Committee cannot hand over its constitutional duties to attorneys for outside witnesses.
The Committee determines which witnesses to call, how many witnesses to call, in what order to call them, and who will question them, the Grassley aide wrote.
These are non-negotiable.

They are non negotiable until Grassley caves in yet again, like he has done like 10 times already.
“The testosterone injections seem to be kicking in....
Quick, hit him with another five”
At this stage it’s more a case of reducing the estrogen in these Repubs.
They were scared of old white men questioning her...
And now theyre demanding it.
Of course they are, they very much want the optics of old white men bullying a woman survivor .
“The testosterone injections seem to be kicking in....”
He’s getting the message via the online form that we’re SICK of this crap.
Jeanine Pirro would make their heads explode.
I thought that there were none.
-—By tomorrows shell get what she wants.-—
Based on what...?
Grassley just told them what is non - negotiatingable
At least that would lead to drama. We don’t even get that from the GOPe.
“Every accuser is making it up unless she has hard evidence (usually DNA removed from some place in her body) to support her case.”
Paula Jones’ evidence of Willy’s bent we-we was petty good, too.
#me neither
“Are there Odds regarding Ford being a Show / No Show yet?”
At this point I’d say 50-50. But that’s just for her to SHOW. As for her actually TESTIFYING, I’d say that is 90-10 against her testifying.
FINALLY!
I say bring in Kirstjen Nielsen since this is a matter of homeland security! Sick Kirstjen on on Ford!
You should read some of the comments over at the TPM site. Everyone over there is all cranked up that she can’t have any witnesses.
They are “strategizing” how to get their “witnesses” into the hearing room. Some of it is downright scary. Apparently, the word hasn’t filtered over to the #ME TOO movement that she DOESN’T HAVE ANY corroborating witnesses.
I wonder sometimes about the intelligence of these people. Some of these “supporters” are in positions of power across the US and you’d think that having everyone that Ford named as a witness to the event say it didn’t happen would give them pause. But, it’s the “seriousness” of the charge that counts. This country is doomed.
Grassley is a WEAK SISTER!! This wont stand for 3 days!! GROW A PAIR, CHUCKIE!!
They want the optics of old white men questioning her. If those asking tough questions are professional women, the sexism claim is weakened.
I refuse to trash Grassley. Hes doing his damnedest to nail down the necessary votes. I would gladly have him as my Senator.
I'll repeat myself. Don't be so sure. Accusations from undergraduate parties at Yale, from the 196os on, are something a whole lot of DC insiders must be real uncomfortable about.
Washington Examiner, September 17, 2018Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has reportedly hired Washington trial lawyer Beth Wilkinson amid the fallout over a woman alleging he sexually assaulted her while in high school.
The growing controversy, which has threatened to delay a committee vote scheduled for Thursday, led Kavanaugh to retain Wilkinson this week, CNN reported Monday. Wilkinson is a founding partner at Wilkinson, Walsh and Eskovitz, a boutique firm with offices in Washington and Los Angeles. She represented three senior aides to Hillary Clinton during the FBI investigation into the former Secretary of State's private email server during the 2016 election.
Given her history, I'm not sure she would be a shark in the water for Kavanaugh.
