Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) called for the vote on Brett Kavanaughs nomination to the Supreme Court to be postponed until the woman accusing him of sexual assault be allowed to speak with senators on the Judiciary Committee.
Corker, who doesn't sit on the committee, told Politico on Sunday that the panel should wait until Christine Blasey Ford can meet with senators.
"I think that would be best for all involved, including the nominee, Corker said of postponing the vote.
If Ford wants her side of the story to be heard, Corker said, she should do so promptly.
Corkers remarks echo those of his fellow Republican colleague Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.).
Flake, who is a member of the committee, said Sunday that he is not comfortable voting yes until he hears from Ford.
"And I don't think I'm alone in this, he added.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he was skeptical about the timing of the new allegations against Kavanaugh but expressed a willingness to hear from Ford.
"If [Christine Blasey] Ford wishes to provide information to the committee, I would gladly listen to what she has to say and compare that against all other information we have received about Judge Kavanaugh," Graham said in a statement.
"If the committee is to hear from Ms. Ford, it should be done immediately so the process can continue as scheduled," added Graham, a member of the Judiciary Committee.
Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said is working to set up separate phone calls with Kavanaugh and Ford before the vote.
"Given the late addendum to the background file and revelations of Dr. Fords identity, Chairman Grassley is actively working to set up such follow-up calls with Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford ahead of Thursdays scheduled vote," a spokesman for Grassley said on Sunday.
Several Democratic members of the committee as well as Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) have called on the Senate to postpone the vote, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
I support Mrs. Fords decision to share her story, and now that she has, it is in the hands of the FBI to conduct an investigation. This should happen before the Senate moves forward on this nominee," Sen. Dianne Feinstein(D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the committee, said Sunday.
Ford, California psychology professor, spoke to The Washington Post on Sunday and detailed her allegations against Kavanaugh for the first time publicly.
The now 51-year-old professor at Palo Alto University in California described an incident between her and Kavanaugh when the pair were in high school.
She alleges that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed one summer in the 1980s and forced himself on her.
Kavanaugh denied the allegation "categorically and unequivocally" on Friday.
The FBI isn’t touching this.
known = know
Notice the only 2 RINOs when are speaking are RINOs who
won’t be around in January.
It’s all about guttersnipes flake and corker getting petty revenge on President Trump.
I warned everyone when Trump won he would be fighting both sides of the aisle...
The swamp is the swamp, they are all the same incestuous folks
LOL Rats?
These are REPUBLICANS!
Now tell me why I should vote for the filthy GOP ever again?
As is his beautiful family. We are in a street fight.
I don’t think it will. Mitch will get threatened like Linda Graham was and will back down.
And they DON’t CARE! WHY? Because they are the SAME party with the SAME goals.
Doesn’t matter if the technically are the the minority party.
If Corker wants to meet with her he should arrange a meeting on his own time. I would advise him to have 25 witnesses and five different digital video recorders operating while he’s in a room with him, but that’s up to him.
“What Corker and Flake are saying is meaningless”
Not meaningless. They will probably vote no after she speaks.
...If the republicans let this nomination be stopped because of this they WILL lose both houses this November...
Totally fed up with this spineless Rep.Senate.
I have a witness who wants to remain anonymous say that both Corker and Flake both were involved in activities that were evil and nasty back in 1980.
Really bad stuff. It cant even be described here because it was so bad.
We need an investigation. This anonymous person demands justice,, she said from her university faculty lounge.
There. That was so easy.
Put her on the stand, put her under oath and grill her like a rack of ribs.
Got to admit, the dems played this as smoothly as Ive ever seen. The intent of this was to peel off a few GOP votes, and they pulled it off. Feinstein and co. are diabolically brilliant.
Good thing brain cancer already got to McCain. Otherwise he would be leading a demonstration in front of the judiciary committee hearing room. The other usual suspects, Flake, Corker & Sasse are already out of the woodwork.
Sounds like a gang rape b y Flake & Corker. Was Sasse there too?
I also believe the most important public service I have to offer our country could well occur over the next 15 months, and I want to be able to do that as thoughtfully and independently as I did the first 10 years and nine months of my Senate career."
He's been planning to hurt Trump as badly as he could, for all that time.
“Put her on the stand, put her under oath and grill her like a rack of ribs.”
That will just make republicans look bad.
If the woman puts on a show and cries in front of the camera, Kavanaugh is done.
She should not be allowed to appear in front of the committee. She has provided zero evidence to back up any of her claims. They can meet her in private, if at all.
