Multiple explosions in the Lawrence, MA area.
Gotcha, learn something new everyday.
So here is my now well thought out approach if you live in this area. If you already suspect gas is in your house then just get out(open door very gently). If not then shut off the main gas valve(to kill some ignition sources). Shut off the main electric breaker(to kill more ignition sources) and open all the windows. And then get out. There is almost no chance of an explosion if you do that.
That’s just how it was done with some old systems, there’d have to be a couple failures but it can be possible to overpressure downstream. Depending on the utility, usually those systems are checked often so that never happens.
Don’t know what went on here..
Right, but it wouldn’t release gas into basements all over town. Would it??? Not that it’s a good situation but it’s better to have fire in one place out of the way than 50 homes across the city. That’s kinda why I asked that question, I’m not the gas-man and don’t play one on TV.
Sounds to me like - oh did you have a little ‘accident’ there, too bad we weren’t there to ‘help’ prevent that.... True thug behavior
Carnage ??
..
4chan is on the case as well. They will get to the bottom of it before the “authorities” do.
Yep, after seeing that tweet and knowing past behaviors of unions. It does make one go Hmmmmm.
I hope nobody lights a candle in these areas. Night is falling and they’ve shut off electricity.
Yep.
Just saw this:
“Mass. State Police say power is being shut off in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover”
Someone took your advice!
A poor word choice.
But thankfully the grammar police is focusing on what is important!
What is crazy is that I am seeing some reports that the Gas main may have been over pressurized(not confirmed). I have never heard of such a thing with Natural gas. It seems like that would either take an intentional act or extreme negligence. If this happened then it may have also caused the lines to leak or rupture. It may have also turned some gas devices into flame throwers.
Isn’t this what viruses like Stuxnet do? Play havoc with control systems? No saying it’s that we did the same thing to the Trans Siberian gas lline back in the 80’s.
Anyone who thinks that the union strike has anything to do with this situation is mistaken. I don’t think that the strikers would commit willful murder to get their point across.
Two different companies are involved. National Grid (now UK owned) is on strike. Columbia Gas is the supplier to the affected area.
My father worked for one of the companies that were ultimately absorbed into National Grid. Seven years ago, after he passed away, I had to go to his company’s credit union to settle up a few things. When I spoke to people there about the state of affairs, the workers’ primary concern was that no investment was being made in gas lines that, in some cases, were well over a hundred years old. Leaks were being patched up as cheaply as possible. A lot of these lines were in downtown Boston and in residential areas.
Good to hear.
Wow, over 100 homes and businesses. That is incredible.
Well, gas workers have been striking. That would be the first place I’d look, TBH.
Yeah it’s not there’s a gas pump. Unless a main regulator failed this almost has to be intentional.
