BOSTON — For some, it’s the best four years of their lives. For others, it’s a period of constant struggle, whether academically, socially, or both. College brings about new experiences and challenges for young adults that can be difficult to adapt to and overcome, so perhaps it’s no surprise that a new study reports high rates of stress and mental health conditions among students.

When one encourages and abets mental disorders (Snowflakes/Sexual Confusion to the Nth degree, etc.), one will eventually not be able to ignore the damages....

When I was still teaching, the state sent many mentally and physically handicapped to us on the dole. Their money never seemed to run out and many stayed on campus well after normal graduation periods. I’m not surprised at the 25% figure. Some of them were a handful in the classroom.

Actually, colleges are primary referral sources to the psych industry. And it IS an industry; big money to be made. So the motivation is there to see “mental illness” where none exists.

I’ve seen it firsthand. In the college town were I worked as a LEO, we’d get a lot of calls about people who “might harm themselves” after they called a counseling line about emotional issues they were experiencing (after all, they were always encouraged to call during freshmen orientation.) Many of these turned into involuntary commitments at the local psych center.

Not to say that the leftism infesting most campuses isn’t an issue, but the “mental illness” label is WAY overused.

You spent 18 years raising snowflakes.

When did you EXPECT the heat to be put on them???

1 in 4 is probably Republican.

A sure sign of mental illness.

And YOU know the family personally/are related to this family/know friends and neighbors/lived next door to the Lanzas/lived in their neighborhood/lived in Newtown/live in Ct. ( you have a Kansas flag on your personal page; dearie, so NO! )/live in Ct./once visited New England? LOL

Mrs. Lanza NEVER did much of anything at all to get Adam any help, blamed others ( the schools, the teachers, for not helping him, even those who tried to at the schools! ), did NOT "sacrificed her life and her happiness to try to deal with him" EVER! You don't know one factual thing about Adam, his parents, his brother, nor about one thing you've ever posted about this family/town/shooting...with one exception; the fact that it is almost impossible to get help for the mentally ill now.

And what you also don't know, it that until a bit before The Lanzas got to Newtown, there was a HUGE complex, here, that was for the mentally ill, which had a very good reputation and which did once help both residential and out-patients.

I suggest that you refrain from talking/posting about topics that you know little to nothing at all about in the future.

Probably comes from paying attention to their instructors who appear to have a 3 out of 4 rate of the same type of illness.

Make it nine out of ten, and I’m with you on that.

Yes, it’s that bad. They freely admit it.

A strange thing to say. If you have a health insurance family plan your child is covered for mental health treatment. If you are poor, and have Medicaid, your child is covered as well. If you have money, you can buy even more mental health treatment. There no doubt are remote areas where specialized treatment is scarce, but this idea that in general there is no help available is largely false.

If the person resists getting treatment, then what?

Thank you for your story and the tribute to the late Jeff Hamm. I am younger than you guys (born in ‘58) but we grew up with the same ethos and patriotism. I even remember my late father, a USAAF WWII vet saying to me (when I was in elementary school), “If your country calls, you go”...but dad, I’m only 11! That’s OK, we knew the full meaning of his intent. My eldest brother qualified as a Navy pilot but opted out for college instead...in any event, I identify with a support your opinions, thanks.
