A long-anticipated plan to enforce the largely ignored public charge provisions of the nations immigration laws that require prospective immigrants and visa holders to be able to support themselves without relying on government aid could be unveiled by the Trump administration as soon as this month.
A source close to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rulemaking process who requested anonymity said that proposed regulations will be published this fall, and likely this month, defining the phrase public charge under Section 212(a)(4) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The upcoming change was previously reported in the media, but usually with little indication of when the change was expected to surface.
Left-wing advocacy organizations have attacked any attempt to formally define public charge as cruel and xenophobic, aimed at drastically curtailing the flow of immigrants to the United States. But the lengths to which the new regulation will go remain to be seen.
Francis Cissna, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an agency within DHS, previewed the upcoming rule during an Aug. 15 event at the National Press Club in Washington that was hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies.

There’s gonna be a traffic jam at the border. People heading South and people heading North. Imagine the ones heading North and seeing people heading the other way.
Support themselves without relying on government aid.
Like the sound of that it’s about time no pussy footing president tacks real action.
The churches should use donations from their members, not taxpayer money. I was thinking along the lines of Greek Orthodox churches perhaps wanting to support Greek Orthodox immigrants, etc. If it is their own money, I would think they will use it wisely, not dole it out like it grows on trees.
Best news in a long time.

When my grandfather came to the USA from Warsaw, Poland in 1913, he had to have a sponsor who agreed that he would find work. It took eight years for my grandfather to bring my grandmother and three children to the USA from Warsaw because WWI broke out in Europe. When my grandmother arrived in the USA with their three children, my grandfather spoke English, owned a business, and had purchased a house. He came to the USA with a quarter to his name.
What the hell happened to immigration? Liberals would be my answer.
Love it!!!!
Build the wall. Migrate here with MERIT!!
This will be challenged all the way to the Supreme Court. It would likely be challenged on the “equal protection” clause.
“Enforce the current laws!” We’ve been screaming it for years/decades. That’s all we need to do.
Winning. Thank God for President Trump.
My family came in the early 1700’s and did not get a damned thing from anyone.
Excellent. We don’t need to be importing leeches who want to live on the public dole. We have too many of those already.
