A long-anticipated plan to enforce the largely ignored public charge provisions of the nations immigration laws that require prospective immigrants and visa holders to be able to support themselves without relying on government aid could be unveiled by the Trump administration as soon as this month.
A source close to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rulemaking process who requested anonymity said that proposed regulations will be published this fall, and likely this month, defining the phrase public charge under Section 212(a)(4) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The upcoming change was previously reported in the media, but usually with little indication of when the change was expected to surface.
Left-wing advocacy organizations have attacked any attempt to formally define public charge as cruel and xenophobic, aimed at drastically curtailing the flow of immigrants to the United States. But the lengths to which the new regulation will go remain to be seen.
Francis Cissna, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an agency within DHS, previewed the upcoming rule during an Aug. 15 event at the National Press Club in Washington that was hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies.

Oh my God, what a crazy radical this man is.
What?
Time has changed, indeed. When I was on immigrant status 20 years ago, I was on myself 100%. It never occurred to me that I can get help from government
Yea! Way to go President Trump!
and... deport all illegals ASAP!
My boss at the now disgraced footwear company came here from Africa 30 years ago - a true refugee who still cannot go back because he refused to fight for the corrupt dictator who still holds power he seized.
When my boss got here right away they wanted to put him on welfare and get him a job as a dishwasher because the pay was so low it wouldn’t prevent him from getting his full welfare. He refused their pressure to do this, worked up to 3 jobs to support his family, got his degree and has had a successful corporate career and wonderful well-raised, successful & educated children. He told me that 30 years later some of the people who arrived when he did are still on welfare and washing dishes.
He has told me over and over “there is no other country like the United States where you can succeed through your own work”.
Left wingers need a definition of PUBLIC CHARGE?
I am no legal genius but even I know it means any type of PUBLIC (read tax payer) assistance.
I don’t allow ticks, fleas, worms, or any other type of parasite to suck the life out of my dogs, my livestock, or myself, why would I allow those parasites to suck up MY hard earned dollars?
Since when is it cruel or xenophobic NOT to want a bunch of PARASITES sucking the life blood out of your body politic?
Let all these left wing advocacy groups; lawyers, activists, religious groups, etc, keep and pay out of their own pockets for the health and welfare of their pet parasites that don’t seem to do anything well except breed.
Another largely ignored law.
I had to sign one back in the 80s for my husband.
It was that way when my ancestors came here. No handouts, if you don’t work you don’t eat is a powerful motivator.

Well bless her heart.
Then she shouldn't have to worry about this as it will have no effect.
This is exactly how immigration was once handled in the United States in the beginning of the last century. Additionally one had to have a sponsor who would be held financially responsible should the new immigrant not be able to support themselves. No financial public support was available for their first 5 years and in addition to these requirements immigrants had to have a real skill that would benefit America. There was no living off the public dole as it is widely practiced today. Return to those days and Make America Great Again.
Exactly. You had to have an American relative as a sponsor and then prove you'd be able to support yourself and not be a burden on the government.
When my wife immigrated here in 1968, she was told that being here was a privilege, not a right, and that if she wanted to work and contribute to society that was good. But, if she committed any crime, or couldn’t support herself for any reason, she would be immediately deported.
No one who is a non-U.S. born immigrant , even though ‘naturalized’ and granted U.S. citizenship , should ever have the right to vote in this country . Not one . The right to vote , for immigrants , should appear in the following generation , of U.S. born children to immigrants and naturalized citizens , only . The exception should be to those that serve honorably in the United States Armed Forces , and their spouses. They earn the right to vote by their service to our country . Merely coming here should not alone entitle them to that right to vote . It needs to be earned , through future , legal, generations . No one , whom is not native born in the United States , should ever be allowed to hold elected higher office . U.S. Senate , House , etc. To govern and affect the future of the United States of America you should have to be born here and have zero divided loyalties to any other people , place or culture .
They had to when they were coming from europe. No place to stay, no money, no job lined up, you weren’t gonna be let in. My relatives had to prove this.
