Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will on Thursday release a ministerial task team report into the possibility of introducing history as a compulsory subject from grades 10 to matric.
In 2015, the department held an inaugural round table where the task team lead by Professor Sibusiso Ndlovu was established.
The ministerial task team was given terms of reference to conduct a comparative international study on how best to implement the introduction of history as a compulsory subject at South African schools in grades 10, 11 and 12.
Now the team will report back after completing comparative studies and research in countries including Russia, China, Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
The Basic Education Departments Elijah Mhlanga says: And making sure that our history books reflect correctly a true story of South Africa.
Motshekga says she believes teaching history has a number of positive effects especially in a country like South Africa, such as contributing to nation building, social cohesion and cultural heritage.
Yes, education is not as important as everyone thinks. Africans have survived thousands of years without it. It is not for Africans, it came with the whites, However, our people might need to know about the history of South Africa and the world. Minister of basic education Angie Motshekga told journalists on Thursday.
Its Bizarro World.
Its not yo thing
Do what youwannado
I cant tell you
Who to sock it too
“Whites forced education down our throats, its actually not our thing”.

...and it shows!
I am sure a comparison of new and old SA history textbooks would prove most revealing.
“It’s not our thing...”
Yes, Angie, it shows.
Like a bright shining flashlight, it shows.
Someone needs to tell the gal that you lie to the public.
Ditto for antibiotics, vaccinations, surgery, electricity, petroleum, metalworking, explosives, guns and a hundred thousand other things.
You can’t make this stuff up! Sounds like every inner city school in the US.
That ‘formal schooling’ seems to have worked very well to create minds like Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Ben Carson, Frederick Douglass, to name just a few
and - (one of the stars in my personal heroic constellation) - George Washington Carver.
People have noticed.
Their “history book” would fit onto a 3”x 5” card.
Feel free to be ignorant.
When you are sick, starving and homeless, who will you blame?
I think the citizens of wakanda would disagree with them, if the said nation did exist.
Yes. Sadly it will be interesting to watch devolution. Fascinating trajectories in many societies that I certainly never expected when I was younger. This situation is just more blatant and direct. It’s happening here in the states as well.
“I think by education he meant formal schooling set up to resemble European elementary and secondary schools.”
I’ve lived in Africa and other 3rd/4th world places. He meant what he said, and I’ve heard that sentiment directly, too, that one can easily go back to the way they used to live, i.e. primitively. They don’t feel they need things like electricity or medical services. Lazy and fatalistic...sad.
You can’t make this sh!t up...
Helter Skelter, its coming down fast!
They dont need to work either (until the plundered wealth accumulated by whites is completely squandered) and then theyll blame whites for not having enough stuff to steal. Kind of like Democrats want to do here.
