I realize that John McCain was a long-time public servant who spent five years at the "Hanoi Hilton", was tortured, came back, was a longtime senator and two-time presidential candidate. And I realize that the shooting in Jacksonville at the gamer convention is an important story.
But we also lost one of the American cultural icons today when Neil Simon passed at 91. (See below.) Can we not find a minute or two for this major figure in contemporary American culture? Are we THAT wrapped up in politics?
I agree.
Neil Simon was a great American treasure and I recall taking one of the first girls I dated to see “Goodbye Girl”.
Rest in Peace....
Can you believe what Michelle Obama wore today?.... /S
*smirk* Womens..
Tuesday Weld made me happy
2 Neil Simon threads today on FR. If you were paying attention.
No validation from me.
There were a lot of headline worthy stories today but it’s all Songbird with a dusting of gamer.
Simon has been off most people’s minds for a few decades now.
That’s how it goes. He did some good work, no doubt, but he’s not really all that relevant these days.
Not trying to short change the guy, but most of the people who remember him are pushing 70-90.
I’ve enjoyed a number of his productions.
How old are you?
You claim to be interested in movies
There was a post earlier. Let not your heart be troubled: When Keith Richards craps the bed, this place will be hopping with Stones fans
Offending chipmunks everywhere.
Getting back to Simon - his nephew was an Obama appointee to the US District Court in Oregon; the judge's wife is a Democrat member of Congress. The Judge did work for the ACLU, and was a member of the Democrat activist lawfirm of Perkins Coie.
I think he played 2nd base for the Yankees.
Probably MANY games, in his dreams.
As a kid growing up in (Brighton Beach) Brooklyn, he was a YUGE fan.
The character in Brighton Beach Memoirs (an autobiography of Simon), Eugene Jerome, loved the Yankees .
What were Neil Simon’s views on that treasonous bastard McCain?
PS..Who is Neil Simon?
Well. Given that the FR is primarily a political site your complaints seem insane.
Back when Broadway wasn't the bastion of faggotry it is now.
LOL keeper
I always heard it was better to say nothing if you only had bad things to say... I have not commented yet, but have to get this out.
First, I liked Trumps tweet!
I too feel most for the family and pray for God’s hand of comfort for them.
I really wish he would have got out of politics and retired before I lost respect for him, the more I learned after that point, it was misplaced from the beginning. I voted for him the first time I was legal to vote in ‘84 when I got to vote to re-elect Ronald Reagan.
I thought he was dirty and as a Republican that supported him, wanted to see him prosecuted first. I hoped he would face our justice, now all that is left is God’s Justice...
For his own sake, I just hope he made his peace with God.
Meant to add, Don’t know who Neil Simon is...
