Republicans say confirming a replacement would be a problem
Republican senators grew increasingly vocal in their warnings to President Donald Trump if he fires Attorney General Jeff Sessions, including threats not to vote for a replacement.
Sen. Ben Sasse came to the floor Thursday afternoon to read into the Congressional Record the statement that Sessions, a former Alabama senator well-liked by his former colleagues, issued in response to criticism from Trump.
Sessions was highlighting the independence of the Justice Department, and Sasse, a Nebraska Republican, wanted it to be perfectly clear that he would have the attorney generals back.
Bizarrely, there are people in this body now talking like the attorney general will be fired, should be fired, Im not sure how to interpret the comments of the last couple of hours, Sasse said. I would just like to say, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, and as a member of this body, I find it really difficult to envision any circumstance where I would vote to confirm a successor to Jeff Sessions if he is fired because he is executing his job, rather than choosing to act in a partisan hack.

McConnell keeping congress in session so no recess appointment can be made? Or really to confirm judges? Inquiring minds.
Calling Ben Sasse and Susan Collins “Republican” is an insult to real Republicans.
There are only a handful of republicans that are worthy of our vote...the rest appear to be liberal infiltrators.
Yeah, warning, if you do things like fire Sessions, you might actually seriously be effecting the power of the GOP part of the D.C. Establishment.
DRAIN THE FREAKING SWAMP!!!!
I can’t even get mad about this anymore. The President hired Sessions azz and now he’s gotta live with it at least until the elections in November.
Speaking of Ben Sasse, the story here about China funding some think tanks got me curious, and I looked at the NR Institute’s last 990 filing online (free access with a free account at guidestar.org). Along with paying Rich Lowry over $350K, that slug and good Ben Sasse pal Jonah Goldberg gets $200K per year (approximately 5% of their total $4M+ in last year) for being a “fellow”, while also of course ensconced at the now-liberal AEI, a syndicated columnist and a semi-regular book writer—with his last book being a not-so-veiled attack on Trump that failed miserably.
That $4M+ they took in in 2016 (their last filed year) was significantly less than the $7M+ they got in 2015. But because they bogusly hide under a 501(c)3 designation, their donors are completely hidden—China? CIA? Soros? We on the outside just don’t know.
Scumbag Sasse (probably CIA is my guess) knows he’s toast:

Yet only about three of those GOP seats are in anyway contested states for Trump—and he should be in a good position, if you can get this election to be fair and Mueller to go away, to draw out a massive re-election vote IMO.
Sasse and Collins are a little slow. Grassley and Graham who actually have power basically blessed the firing of Sessions on Thurs. After the midterms we will likely have 3-4 more Senate seats so easier confirmation of a new AG.
It would be so good to have several more Trump supporting Senators so we would not have to consider the opinions of Senators like this.
Collins in particular has been shrewdly using her GOP status in narrow majorities. She really should be a Democrat but would not have the leverage she has in the GOP. That is the sole reason she is in the GOP.
President Trump needs to “warn” these two severely retarded chumps to STFU.
Trump is not going to fire Sessions. In wrestling, this is a tag team. Sessions handles MS-13, and Trump discredits Mule-boy. His tweets are the hype speeches before the main event.
I expect Ssssions to resign. Probably in October as an attempt to harm POTUS.
It’s moot - Trump isn’t going to fire him anyway.
People who think Trump is itching to fire Sessions so that he can put an AG in there who will fire Mueller just don’t get it.
Trump doesn’t want anything to do with ending the Mueller witch hunt - he wants it to die of natural causes so nobody can say he was obstructing.
These same people think Trump wants a new AG that would throw HRC and other high level Obama era officials in jail - wrong again.
Trump isn’t interested in throwing anyone in jail - that’s all in the past - he’s a forward-looking pragmatist - he has no time for hunting down ghosts of the Obama administration - he’s too focused on MAGA.
Trump likes having Sessions as AG - that way, when his more bloodthirsty supporters get angry about the witch hunt, or angry that HRC and other corrupt Obama minions are not getting locked up, Trump has someone to blame: Jeff Sessions.
When this is all over, Sessions is going to deserve a Purple Heart for all the crap he’s had to take.
You are dreaming. The Sessions DOJ fabricated a crime directly implicating Trump in the Cohen plea deal. Then Sessions released a politically damaging PR in response when called out on his betrayal. That is as far from a tag team as you can get.
+1
“The Sessions DOJ fabricated a crime directly implicating Trump in the Cohen plea deal. “
The SDNY is only a branch of the DOJ, and the referral was by Mueller. The SDNY held a bazillion years of prison for tax fraud up to Cohen, and all he could give him was this NDA payments, which they had to twist themselves into a pretzel to even construe as a crime. Sessions couldn’t interfere without looking like he’s overruling Mueller, which would only amplify this nothing burger even further. He can’t start anything against this band of rogues and thieves until after the election. But he does have an attorney assigned who’s been looking into it for months.
Go over Rush’s second Friday caller, and Rush’s comments. I only heard it just now via podcast, but it’s my thoughts exactly.
Sunshine pump all you want but the stinking pile of garbage omnibus bill is all the evidence you should need that Sessions DOJ enabled Muellwr coup is hamstringing the MAGA agenda of POTUS.
Keep the faith!

the reason to fire sessions is not mueller. It is clinton and obama’s crimes going unaddressed.
