~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi Naval Air Station Meridian or NAS Meridian is a military airport located 11 miles northeast of Meridian, Mississippi in Lauderdale County and Kemper County, and is one of the Navy's two jet strike pilot training facilities. Naval Air Station Meridian trains Sailors and Marines in aviation and technical related fields. It is home to Training Air Wing One, Training Squadron 9, Training Squadron 7, Naval Technical Training Center, Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One and the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy. The Air Operations Department employs 230 military and civilian personnel to operate NAS Meridian/McCain Field and Naval Outlying Landing Field (NOLF) Joe Williams. Their primary mission is to support Commander, Training Air Wing ONE, the wing's subordinate training squadrons and its associated T-45 Goshawk aircraft in the conduct of undergraduate strike pilot training. Additional services are furnished to support operations for NAS and transient military aircrews. Air Traffic Control Division operates the control tower and radar final control systems. NAS Meridian maintains a separate runway, Joe Williams Outlying Landing Field (OLF), approximately 25 miles northwest of the main air station. Joe Williams OLF is an 8,000 foot long runway located in a rural area between the communities of Bogue Chitto and De Kalb. The field is used to reduced traffic congestion at the main air station, primarily when students are conducting Field Carrier Landing Practice in preparation for initial aircraft carrier qualification. United Air Lines is so twisted around we (other lines) refer to them as Untied Airlines - as a matter of fact, one of their line trucks had the UAL logo with Untied rather than United.

PS: We also have other names for our competition: DELTA means Doesn’t Even Leave The Airport and an old captain told me that TWA stood for Teeny Weeny Airlines. There’s a bunch of them out there like that.

Howdy, Kathy.
Things a little less crazy today? Have y’all had a little free time to dig into the new system some more to understand the timecard situation?

Howdy, radu!
Hope today was a good one...ie, cooler and less humid!
Mine was. it only reached 90 today. A nice respite till the next round of heat sets in.

Howdy, LUV.
Have a good day? Did you get ant rain perchance?
We got a half inch this morning and I’m eyeballin’ the radar as a line of storms marches eastward. Looks like we’ll be ok tonight ... at this point any way.

No rain for us. I’m kind of ticked. LOL! Some friends who only live about 4 blocks from us got some yeaterday, but we didn’t. Just weird!
That’s awesome that you got 1/2’’! I hope you get some more.

Oops, there ya are. I was slow typing my post to you due to watching the SE cam.
Not all that cool here and it was quite muggy. Rain here this morning and a few scattered showers in the area this afternoon has kept the air pretty soupy.
Glad y’all got a little break in the heat, at least.

How frustrating! It stinks when it rains that close by and you miss out. I’ve stood on our porch and watched it pour across the road and not a drop fell on the farm.
We still have chances for rain through tomorrow, then it’s supposed to be dry the rest of the week.

Yuck. Makes ya want to go away for a while to a place that’s smoke-free, doesn’t it? We’ve had smoke from distant fires here a few times but it wasn’t as bad as it sounds like you’re dealing with. I hope the wind shifts soon to give you a break!
It’s been primarily hot and soupy here all summer. It’s been odd to not have a Bermuda High settle over us this year. The plant life appreciates it .... it’s been a long time since I’ve seen things so dark green this late in the summer.

it’s very frustrating! I guess we’ll have to water the yard again. Cha-ching!
I found out today that the lady who usually cat-sits for me is not going to be in town when we are going to WY. I’m sort of in a crabby mood now. She’s the only one that doesn’t mind dealing with the litter box. LOL!

Yes, it could be a bumper crop this year, provided we don’t get any more storms like last Thursday night’s! I’m still shocked at how well the bean plants snapped back after being laid flat.
There’s stuff moving this way now that I’m keeping a close eye on.

Uh oh, not good that your kitty sitter won’t be around when you go to WY. Do you have anyone else in mind who can take care of them? Or maybe your friend who works for a vet will know of someone trustworthy?

Her SIL sometimes cat sits for her and we know her. My friend is going to get in touch with the SIL since she’s supposed to be at her house in the next couple of days and since I don’t know her #.
I guess if worse comes to worse, we can board Ginger and Peaches and let another friend just come dump food and water in the back yard for the rest of the herd.
But....I’ll think about all this tomorrow. LOL!
