Democrat Senator: ‘Infowars Is Just The Tip Of A Giant Iceberg’
Daily Caller ^ | 8/7/18

Posted on 08/07/2018 3:34:15 AM PDT by markomalley

Following the removal of Alex Jones from Facebook, Apple and YouTube, for violating “hate speech” policies, Democrat Senator Chris Murphy tweeted “Infowars is just the tip of a giant iceberg.”

Monday afternoon Murphy tweeted, “I know Facebook and Apple and YouTube have gotten so big they sometimes seem like the government. But they aren’t. They are private companies that shouldn’t knowingly spread lies and hate. They took a good first step today removing Infowars. Infowars is just the tip of the iceberg of hate and lies that uses sites like Facebook and Youtube to tear our nation apart. These companies must do more than take down one website. The survival of our democracy depends on it.”

Senator Murphy did not clarify just exactly who, or what outlets make up the rest of the “giant iceberg of hate and lies” — and many conservatives are leery where this may be going.

Earlier this year, Twitter announced it would start using an algorithm to crack down on “hate speech.” One of the key components of the algorithm would collapse abusive or potentially “low quality” tweets by detecting certain phrases and patterns. The algorithm would also tweak search results, to downgrade abusive tweets.

So far it appears that the new algorithm may be targeting conservatives.  On Sunday, conservative commentator Candace Owens temporarily had her account suspended. Twitter later restored her account, claiming that it was an “error.” Last month, Vice News reported that several prominent Republican officials were not being featured in Twitter search results. This tactic has been referred to as “shadow banning.”

Twitter’s new algorithm has many conservatives leery where this may be going — their concern? Who gets to determine what constitutes hate speech?

In the 80s demoncrats fought tooth and nail to stop the "Fairness Doctrine" from being tossed out.

With the removal of the FD in 1987 this opened the door for conservative talk radio to emerge.

Rush started his show in 1988 and the rest as they say is history.

Now, we're seeing a modern day application of the FD through Leftist controlled social media. The Left never stops advancing their thought control agenda.

Just imagine what compliant sock puppets these companies would be if the Democrats had majorities.

No need to just 'imagine'.

There's a huge 'authenticity gap' between the Democrats, the inherent product 'quality' of the drive-by media, public education system and political correctness and that which is known by the American people and now the world, to be most pro-American. Everyone else lives in the Authenticity Gap or at least that's where their minds are at. Liberals must always be moving with the times, right? But no, not now!

When Obama threatened us with his actions, I said "What's so great about these times that I should want to move with them?", and so the alternative was to maintain my conservative outlook for the duration and now the time is once again right for "moving with the times",...and it has been a long, long time since I felt this good about moving with the times.

gab.ai is sort of the equivalent of twitter but it's a pita having to "mute" people. It's a constant, pro-active job and there's a LOT of people who need to be muted.

bitchute.com and real.video seems to be the two alternatives to youtube but without google ads, there's no way for people to ,monetize their content and of course, google owns youtube so don't expect google ads to work as well anywhere else. Google has a monopoly on general web advertising too.

mewe.com is an alternative to facebook and looks pretty decent so far. All I've done so far is sign up.

It's looking like facebook will be the easiest to replace but conservatives will have to work at it. At least there's the privacy issues that are well documented and now they want your banking meta data. Easy for all people to get behind a swap. Youtube will be harder because there's so many users that are either center or left of center or apolitical that have years invested into earning subscribers and Alex Jones being removed won't concern them one bit. Me personally, I just can't stand to listen to the guy. His voice grates on my nerves. Some people can do gravely better than others

The survival of a democracy depends on shutting people up????? The very first thing the founders thought to protect was the right to NOT be silenced!

Wonder how long Free Republic account has left on Facebook.? Looks like other Libertarians are being kick off social media.

I do not agree with Alex Jones, but I support his free speech rights.

How long before Free Republic must run operations in the Dark Net?

Will the Senate Democrats Plans for Mandatory Location and Identify verification effect Free Republic?

Do we need to learn how to run Dark on the internet?

Very scary times now.

Another purge of non-left voices started roughly 90 days before the 2018 election.

There is no explicit, enumerated Constitutional power granted to Congress or ANY branch of the federal govt to break up free enterprises. Indeed, the Congress didn't seek to break up US offices of the East India Company. The Sherman Antitrust Act draws its legal underpinning from the Commerce Clause, perhaps the most abused element of the Constitution. To give sanction to a federal break up "monopolies" via the Sherman Antitrust Act, i.e. the Commerce Clause, is to give sanction to every other abuse of the Commerce Clause from the New Deal up to the Lopez decision.

In 1995 many people (including Robert Bork...while on Netscape's payroll) argued that Microsoft should be broken up. It wasn't. In response, several firms had to rely on innovation and the free market. The result? I can post to FR while commuting to work, while Microsoft isn't the Master of the Universe anymore.

I don't like what FB et al are doing. But the same means by which many want to grant Leviathan the power to regulate a few servers and wires that NOBODY IS FORCED TO USE is the same means by which guns can be regulated out of existence, dissent can be quashed, and state socialism/governmental choosing of winners and losers can be enacted.

I'm sorry...I'll chose the Founders' intent and freedom over state socialism any day.

Democrats & Apple now ban Jew supporters and promote Jew haters like Nation of Islam.

Who would buy Apple products that actively supports Jew hatred??

Not I.

I’m fine with this, but these social media platforms have been given a special exemption to the law that they fully use when convenient. That gives them responsibility.

I am afraid we are forced to use the biggies.

There are no alternaives, and at work and in personal lives, we are all being directed to on line sources.

There are no more off line sources for various issues.

for example, one cannot get paycheck information unless on line and using search or app, one needs to sign up to receive information about labs etc. from doctors, businesses have all put scheduling on line and text alerts for open shifts.

Truckers have many issue requiring on line services so don’t tell me that there are options and choices.

I have now signed up to get his newsletters.

Seems like it’s the only way to know what’s going on since Big Brother is now putting pressure on tech companies to censor the right.

I guess it’s time to sign up for Louder with Crowder.

They won’t get it until and unless someone is banned for being pro abortion (which won’t happen considering who the censors currently are). People have turned towards hatred as their guiding light. The end will be dark.

I think we on the Right are going to have to seriously rethink our brick wall defense of “they’re a private company and can do what they want”.

This is a clear instance where we are being hoisted on the petard of our own virtue, Alinsky style.

Corporate America has been thoroughly compromised by the Left. I think in certain instances we need to withdraw our support.
