Following the removal of Alex Jones from Facebook, Apple and YouTube, for violating hate speech policies, Democrat Senator Chris Murphy tweeted Infowars is just the tip of a giant iceberg.
Monday afternoon Murphy tweeted, I know Facebook and Apple and YouTube have gotten so big they sometimes seem like the government. But they arent. They are private companies that shouldnt knowingly spread lies and hate. They took a good first step today removing Infowars. Infowars is just the tip of the iceberg of hate and lies that uses sites like Facebook and Youtube to tear our nation apart. These companies must do more than take down one website. The survival of our democracy depends on it.
Senator Murphy did not clarify just exactly who, or what outlets make up the rest of the giant iceberg of hate and lies and many conservatives are leery where this may be going.
Earlier this year, Twitter announced it would start using an algorithm to crack down on hate speech. One of the key components of the algorithm would collapse abusive or potentially low quality tweets by detecting certain phrases and patterns. The algorithm would also tweak search results, to downgrade abusive tweets.
So far it appears that the new algorithm may be targeting conservatives. On Sunday, conservative commentator Candace Owens temporarily had her account suspended. Twitter later restored her account, claiming that it was an error. Last month, Vice News reported that several prominent Republican officials were not being featured in Twitter search results. This tactic has been referred to as shadow banning.
Twitters new algorithm has many conservatives leery where this may be going their concern? Who gets to determine what constitutes hate speech?
Does this mean I should refuse the disbursements from my (non-government) pension since a “Tech” company’s name is on the checks?
And, let me be the judge of whether or not to listen to Alex Jones - I dont particularly because he seems to feel that there is no conspiracy so devastating and destructive that he cannot ignore it to find and even more radical and unbelieveable conspiracy.
MySpace would love to have some business.
Folks are running around like Infowars has been taken off the air.
It’s amusing that so many think Facebook is the internet. Dumb.
Infowars.com is up and running just fine.
Yeah, and all the MSM is a propaganda wing of the communist dimocrat people’s socialist party of Amerika/Soviet Amerika.
On a related point, my late church (the national leadership) has taken on the mission of “eradicating hate.” That is exactly what is transpiring here and it is neither moral nor Christian.
Yes, leftists/Democrats have made it quite clear that in their opinion, the “survival of our Democracy” depends upon the abolition of both the 1st and 2nd amendments to our Constitution. Quite clear indeed.
“They are utilities.”
Absurd.
Invariably, those whose stated goal is to “eradicate hate” exhibit far more hatred than those whom they seek to silence.
You are exactly right.
We cannot forever tolerate one sided “justice” and only their viewpoints allowed. Appeasing them does no good (Kasich,Jeb, you won’t get patted on the head as good little boys, you’ll just be in the same line to the death camps as the others.)
To my dear colleagues here on this forum ——
Sorry to be an I Told You So but...
I told you so.
“Keep in mind that most people now get their news from these platforms.”
That’s an assertion of a fact not in evidence. And highly suspect.
No there wont.
There are competitors but they are pushed out by the companies themselves.
There is not an ability to compete when you own everything.
WAKE UP OR FIRE JEFF SESSIONS IMMEDIATELY... BEFORE HE SINGLY, UNDERHANDEDLY STARTS CV11.
The Christians and Jews who try to eradicate hate by censorship will be wide eyed and totally shocked when they are pushed into the trucks and freight cars on the way to the death camps.
Leftists do not like God fearing people, get that? After two cheeks and the other two lower down, you cannot turn any more cheeks.
really , I cannot get info about my paycheck stub, nor my company scheduling nor my lab results without on line access. And that is just a beginning.
Most companies require on line job applications some using FB platform and some using google platform.
and the list goes on...
I think we on the Right are going to have to seriously rethink our brick wall defense of theyre a private company and can do what they want.
This is a clear instance where we are being hoisted on the petard of our own virtue, Alinsky style.
Corporate America has been thoroughly compromised by the Left. I think in certain instances we need to withdraw our support.

I recall the Netscape vs Explorer fights in the mid-1990s, with demands for Microsoft to be broken up. They weren't, firms innovated, and now we have a multitude of browser AND O/S options.
It is curious that the same apparatus that can't balance its budget, is investigating Trump over Russian election interference, mangles health care delivery, is peopled with scores of Deep Staters, and hosts a plethora of other errors, is suddenly viewed as a necessary and benevolent savor against FB et al.
If we play with fire, we shouldn't cry when we get burned. Thanks for listening.
And we have the power to prevent them from doing this monstrosity, but will we come November?
We let Obama happen, we might let this happen to if we don’t vote.
This shows you just how close we are to a Tyrannical Genocidal Gov’t!
Pretending that Constitutional niceties still exist while the document has effectively been a dead letter since the New Deal and the Warren Court is foolish. The younger President Bush was regrettably right when he described the Constitution as a piece of paper. His context was in reference to Presidential powers when the country is engaged in conflict with foreign terrorists. However, the Deep State and its media and institutional allies are a greater threat to this country than Isis, Al-Qaeda, Russia, Iran, North Korea, or China are. If it takes the use of common carrier laws and antitrust legislation to strike back at these enemies, so be it.
