One of the most important results of President Trumps negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is the return of the remains of American troops who perished during the Korean War half a century ago.
The remains of over fifty U.S. servicemen arrived in South Korea in accordance with an agreement made between Trump and Kim Jong Un last month.
The remains were transported from North Korea to Osan Air Base at Pyeongtaek, South Korea, where a formal acceptance ceremony for the remains was performed.
U.N. honor guards carried the boxes containing the still unconfirmed remains of U.S. servicemen killed during the Korean War. The date the remains landed in the South happened to be July 27 the 65th anniversary of the armistice that ended the open hostilities of the Korean War.

Some of the remains in those boxes might turn out to be a North Korean dog (canine). The NORKS have not done any careful identification in earlier repatriations.
You’re exactly right!
People are too ready to look for reasons to be made at the UN. There are plenty of reasons to view the UN negatively but this isn’t one of them.
The UN flag is appropriate and once remains are identified, they will be draped in the American flag.
Cant believe this is an issue.
The only reason it happened was the Soviets were stupid enough to boycott a Security Council meeting and thus not Veto the action. They never made that mistake again.
I agree to an extent. The truth js that no one really knows who is in the boxes. It may be years before the remains are identified. Once they are identified as Americans they will certainty be buried with honors wrapped in their American flags.
WHY ARE THE AMERICAN REMAINS RETURNING FROM THE KOREAN WAR DRAPED IN UNITED NATIONS FLAG?
UN probably donated the flags. Norks got away cheap.
They were fighting under the UN flag for the UN.
"This was a sign of disrespect."
No, it was not. At this point there is absolutely no assurance that any of the remains are from U.S servicemen.
OK then, they're not....I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with someone who goes thru life trying to find something to bitch about........Sheesh!
That weak “justification” really boils my blood. These are American military warriors’ remains, not United Nations. It’s insulting and a disgrace. I want POTUS to rip those flags off the containers and replace them with the Red, White, and Blue. More insulting still, it was President Trump who succeeded in bringing the remains home, not the U.N.
Getty images at the link. Can’t post them.
I am extremely offended that the remains were not covered with American flags! I don’t care that it was a “U.N.” action! These were OUR troops, and as such, they need to be covered with OUR flag!
Because it was a UN war...
The UN met in the morning and argued about what to do with NK and left the decision until after lunch...
The POed Russian reps never came back after lunch because they didn’t agree to fight NK...the Communists wouldnt fight other Communists...but Russia and China aided the NK with weapons etc...
The rest of the Western powers voted to go into NK so it was a UN war and the American soldiers fought under the UN flag...
Just be thankful Obama’s not in my WH any more...the flag would be the homosexual one...
All the forces who fought against the North Korean/Red Chinese invasion did so under the flag and authority of the United Nations, whether it was the Kiwis, the Diggers, the GIs, the Turks or whoever. To this day it is called the UN command.
I noticed the same, but I just don’t give a damn.
First thing I noticed is “WHY THE HELL are these US soldiers not draped in Old Glory???????!!!!!!!!!
Then I realized the near miracle President Trump achieved in getting the remains of so many US Servicemen back home, with hundreds more still in NK to exhume and bring home. If they have to be in the commie UN fish wrapper as part of the deal, that is OK, I am good with that. Very small price to pay to finally after pushing 100 years after the Korean War, these heroes’s remains get to come home.
I hate it, but any dealing with NK is going to involved some form of distasteful compromise. This is just not a high price to pay or an issue to go to war over. You have to know when to fight your battles.
We are bringing the remains of these boys home. That in itself is a miracle. I can live with the UN looking like they get all the credit in foreign news clips. F them.

Now go take a chill pill and a nap.......
“Plus, some of those remains might turn out to be British, Turks, Australians or some other allied forces.”
Or animal remains, as we have received in the past.
What is the next step in the process of returning remains to their final destinations?
Will they be identified in S. Korea, or all transferred elsewhere for identification? If brought to the U.S., will there be a ceremony? Bringing them home, wherever “home” is, is a wonderful thing. Thank you, President Trump!
I'll answer the question for the young and ignorant on FR.
Because they fought - and died - under the UN flag. Along with the troops from 15 other countries (not including Korea). Five other countries provided medical personnel. (That includes Italy, which had not been admitted to the UN.
This time it’s at the presidential level and Kim Jung Un’s status is at stake. I would be VERY surprised if any of those remains turn out to be non-human.
I don't think DNA tests have been performed on any of them yet.
