Tourist hotspot Amsterdam turns into a "lawless jungle" after dark with the police powerless to intervene against crime and violence, the city's ombudsman warned in an interview Saturday.

"The city centre becomes an urban jungle at night," Amsterdam's official ombudsman Arre Zuurmond told Dutch daily Trouw, warning of illegal car and bike races zooming through the streets, open drugs sales and general mayhem.

"Criminal money flourishes, there is no authority and the police can no longer handle the situation," he warned.

Some 18 million tourists flock to Amsterdam every year -- more than the entire population of the Netherlands.

Yes. There is no mention of how it’s all Trump’s fault.

/s (of course)

Why are the police powerless? It’s only because the politicians tie their hands.

I’m hoping that when Ruth Ginsburg finally leaves, we’ll have a majority on the Supreme Court that believe in law and order. No more “criminal’s rights” time to make America’s neighborhoods safe again.

I hope all the Warren Court decisions are overturned - particularly in the area of criminal law.

I was there in 2016. It did not seem to be at all out of control at night. However, on the flight in from London, there were a lot of rowdy young English men (soccer hooligan types).

I visited last June and didn’t have any problems.

Did not see any street racing, but there are a lot of unsavory characters. And yes, a lot fo drugs...

They go to Amsterdam to smoke dope, drink, and avail themselves of the local sex trade.

Also, I stopped by the Red Light District at night, just out of curiosity (really). Frankly, there seemed to be a lot more looking than doing. It seemed to be the size of the crowd, watching anyone who goes in or out of a brothel, is itself a deterrent.

I was there in 2002. Was expecting to see similar to Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, etc. WRONG!

Arriving at the train station in Amsterdam was a definite “we’re not in Kansas anymore” moment. Very dangerous looking people everywhere. And this was 16 years ago. Can’t imagine why anyone would even consider going there now. Plan a trip to Somalia instead. Meet the same people and save a bundle on your room.

The dutchies need to either call in the UN blue helmets to keep order (LOL) or simply outlaw night time.

Problem solved.

Really? That was the opposite of my experience in 2016. It seemed to be very civilized. Even the Red Light District. The most surprising thing was the large number of Argentinian Steak houses.

The fact is, the tourists from Belgium get drunk and go wild. The normally placid Begians just can’t handle their liquor after dark.

But legalized recreational prositution and drugs were what made Amsterdam so... civilized.
