A Trader Joe’s employee, who died during a hostage situation over the weekend, was killed by LAPD gunfire, Chief Michael Moore said Tuesday at a news conference.

Ballistics tests show that a bullet fired from a Los Angeles police officer’s firearm struck and killed Melyda Corado, 27, during a shootout with the alleged hostage taker at the Silver Lake supermarket Saturday, Moore said.

>>I am amazed at the accounts of cops firing hundreds of rounds and never hitting what they are shooting at.

That’s because you’ve never been in a gun fight — even a simulated one. If you had, you’d know that rounds miss. There is no real way to train for a gun fight like you would anything else, as you know a simulated anything won’t get you killed. One can be better prepared but there are so many factors that you can’t predict.

Going to the range and getting good at firing your weapon is a little like only becoming proficient in layups while preparing to play in the NBA. It will only get you so far, though it is necessary.

Yes it could have been avoided. Know where missed bullets will go. I am sick of excuses for “trained” government shooters who are immune from prosecution for the very same acts that would see any other citizen jailed and bankrupted.

You apparently have little experience with the politically correct affirmative action incompetently led LAPD.

One doesn’t need to be expert in any endeavor to recognize poor performance.

Possibly. My issue is that he had existed the building surrounded by hostages. A round would easily pass through him and hit a hostage. Whatever the case, he apparently was not armed.... so, why shoot at all. There was no claim in the written story that he was holding a gun to a hostage.

This is what I was afraid of.

This shooter has not killed ANYONE. As monstrous as he was. If Grandma pulls through, he didn’t murder at all.

And now this poor young woman’s life is gone. And I have to pony up to pay millions because some stupid cop shot into an open trader joe’s store. I love cops but that was effing DUMB.

Is that picture form this weekend at Trader Joe’s? It looks like the one from a few years back where the cops were looking for the ex-cop turned murderer/arsonist, and shot the 2 women delivering news papers.

Yes, from a few years ago. Used it to illustrate the prior comment about cops not being able to hit anything they shoot at.

The people in the truck were unharmed and innocent.

Still need some clarification. Did he exit the store surrounded by hostages with the gun. He was also to have handcuffed himself.... were they actually handcuffs.

So... also, somebody had to have gone to the store and given him the handcuffs. But finally, exiting the store surrounded by hostages doesn't give you a shot unless the hostages break free.

Prayers for the officer who fired. Likely this could not have been avoided

I love and respect cops. But BS. This could have been avoided. This would be more excusable in a line of duty instant decision if the guy had been actively shooting. Or if you got a line on the guy on his own away from others, but someone pops out unexpectedly. Or if he was aiming at a kid. Then you stand up for the officer.

Imagine Gd forbid if our BunnySlippers had shopped faster and was pushing her cart out the door when the cops went wild. She was seconds away from that spot. It is not ok to fire into crowds. Even with good intentions.

Now that is offensive. LAPD do not cheer their own when they accidentally kill bystanders. Sheesh. I think the cop made a very wrong decision. But they don’t relish killing the wrong person. He’s probably horrified.

No, the perp was armed. But he wasn’t shooting at the moment and there were many innocent people about.

Once again.... this was not an apparent exchange of gunfire... so what happened:

The standoff ended when Atkins agreed to handcuff himself and walked out the front door, surrounded by four of the hostages. He was injured when he was taken into custody, police said.

The sad part is the death of an innocent young woman. May God welcome her. Amen.

Now, I would say all police agencies in the US should have detailed training in such incidents—except most do already.

What if the police were told suspect is a black man in late 20s? Officers go pale over the thought. Especiallly in PC California and LA.

A full inquiry like more than one Dragnet episode based on real life (nonfiction book on Dragnet called Just the Facts) . Turn in his badge, hope his family can be saved with one lousy patrol car watching in front for BLM mobs and hit men trying to kill them.

LAPD won’t back up an officer if the pols say it looks un-PC. “Fry the cop. That’s an order, Chief.”

Last year that one officer elsewhere said she hesitated to shoot the black man “because I was afraid I’d become the next headline” like Darren Wilson. The black man shot her painfully but not fatally and she was in the hospital where she said that.

Pat Buchanan: “Political Correctness is not worth dying over.”

Horrifyingly, they may have said spray the whole area with rounds and no one individually can be charged with shooting a black man. “Everybody’s doing it.”

“Prayers for the officer who fired. Likely this could not have been avoided, and he is going to have to live with it for the rest of his life.”

BS. Someone pulled a trigger. It was avoidable.

He’s still alive, right?? I guess that’s all that matters.
