A Trader Joes employee, who died during a hostage situation over the weekend, was killed by LAPD gunfire, Chief Michael Moore said Tuesday at a news conference.
Ballistics tests show that a bullet fired from a Los Angeles police officers firearm struck and killed Melyda Corado, 27, during a shootout with the alleged hostage taker at the Silver Lake supermarket Saturday, Moore said.

"...friendly fire..."
Very sad. Very, very sad.
Prayers for the officer who fired. Likely this could not have been avoided, and he is going to have to live with it for the rest of his life.
Melyda Corado, 27, had worked at the grocery store for four years and was there Saturday when a deranged, still-unidentified man whod just led police on a car chase crashed into a utility pole in front of the supermarket and ran inside brandishing his weapon.Im sad to say she didnt make it. My baby sister. My world, tweeted Albert Corado, the womans brother, who had posted asking people to help him locate Melyda as the three-hour hostage situation unfolded inside the supermarket.
She was the person I loved the most in the world. She was never anyone but herself for better or worse, she was herself, he told CNN.
Spray but don’t pray.
Oh no. How absolutely heartbreaking.
This doesn't smell right. At this point, my prayers are for the young lady who was shot.
I hate to say it but she had been the perp she would have never been hit. I am amazed at the accounts of cops firing hundreds of rounds and never hitting what they are shooting at. They use a spray and pray method that this time wound up killing an innocent. Cops need to have more weapons training on how to aim at their target.
I’m just surprised this didn’t happen in Florida. A story like this has “Florida LEO’s” all over it.
Has happened more than once in California. If you or I did this, we’d be in prison still.
Freeper Bunnyslippers was one of the hostages. She said the perp was wounded while still holding them in the front of the store. She said he was cold and shivering from shock and blood loss I guess.
F him, the operative word you used was “live”. She doesn’t get to because Rambo couldn’t hold his trigger finger. I hope he’s a miserable SOB for the rest of his sorry days. The source of your paycheck does not give you special rights, Rule #4, Be sure of your target and what’s behind it.
LAPD? More like high-fives overs beers at the local pub.
“Likely this could not have been avoided”
Just how can you make such a statement? Surely, it could have been avoided, but all too frequently, cops cause collateral damage that proves to be unnecessary. But one thing is sure, the final report will absolve the officer of any responsibility, whereas, if it had been a citizen, well that individual would be facing jail time.
maybe they meant that he had already been injured when he was taken into custody (iow a wording ambiguity).
it could have been spray and pray but it could also have been a split second calculated risk if the perp was firing at police out in the open and he could also have hit innocent bystanders. the manager victim would have naturally been drawn to the source of the commotion at the front of the store at the beginning, resulting in her having been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Very unfortunate all around.
They don’t shoot, they just hide till it’s over.
Clearly all of you have been in MANY firefights situation where hostages were involved, and are in a SUPREME position to judge.
Or do you think the LAPD wakes-up each morning and says “I think I’ll go gun down a grocery store manager today”?
I bow to your superior perspective.
