Linda Tripp's lawyer: Michael Cohen may want immunity for recordings
Washington Examiner ^ | July 20, 2018

An attorney who led Linda Tripp's defense against state charges for secretly recording Monica Lewinsky says President Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, should seek a deal with special counsel Robert Mueller if he illegally recorded Trump.

Cohen secretly taped Trump discussing a payment to a Playboy model who alleged an affair, about two months before the 2016 election, the New York Times reported Friday. The date and location of the conversation were not reported, but Cohen is believed to have taped other talks with Trump, possibly in files seized in raids of his office and home in April.

Anthony Zaccagnini, Tripp's lawyer, said if federal prosecutors find evidence that Cohen violated a state law, they could turn Cohen over to state authorities, or use the information as leverage to coerce his cooperation. Proactively brokering a deal with federal authorities could make a state prosecution much more difficult, he said.

Cohen isn’t going to ask for immunity. And it doesn’t apply if you lie.

Once again... Mueller is planting the stories just *begging* Trump to fire him because it is all the Dems/FBI have for the Fall Election is to whine about the firing of Mueller. If Trump doesn’t fire him, the Dems have nothing.

If it was obtained illegally, it’s inadmissible as evidence.

Only if the target is a Democrat.

Impotent on Hillary and Bill, Lynch, Obama, Rosenstein, FBI staff, Sessions, Mueller, scofflaws in sanctuary cities, states who didn’t provide voter information, on and on and on.

What has any of this this got to do with Mueller’s investigation into Russian collusion?

I don’t think he has anything to squirm about. If he did, they would have found it long ago.

Maybe its just to slander and smear the President.

Mueller can leak trash talk to friends and co-conspirators in the Leftist Media.
Then all can attack Trump.
Then it can be said “the jury will disregard the statements” AFTER the slander is on breaking news everywhere for 3 days.

The jury here is the voting public for Trump midterm support.

Another serious question is that if it is evidence, who leaked to the NYT?

You would think that Mike Cohen’s own lawyers would have told him that already. Guess who else is waiting to interview Mike Cohen about his time on The Trump Team?
The “Reverend” Al Sharpton, I’ll have you know! Yes. It’s true.

New York is a one party state for recording. This means that consent of only one person is needed to record conversations. This being said an Attorney who records privileged conversations with a client with out their permission may be guilty of fraud. It is also a big no-no with the bar association. I’m just sayin’

The only crime I see here is recording someone without their knowledge. What am I missing?

Impeachment on what grounds? What evidence of illegal activity is exposed in the recording? While he was not President for that matter. 90% of these congress bastards from both sides could be impeached if having an affair and/or paying hush money was a crime.

Ti.e relive the entire FBI team on the investigation and replace them FBI employees half way to retirement.

Irrelevant! “Recording laws” & the “ethical standards for attorneys” are two different trains on two different tracks. The point of my posting at all was to make the point that the behavior may not be illegal, but it is certainly unethical. Whatever state bars to whom he belongs should investigate. You shouldn’t record your clients. Triple bad if you do it in secret.

So an attorney is on the phone with a client and writes down everything he says. The notes are in my files. What's the difference??

I've seen it 100 times. Hpow the hell do you think they keep track of things....via memory??
