Here Are The Early Favorites For Kennedy’s Replacement
The Daily Caller ^ | Kevin Daley

Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday, precipitating a cataclysmic election year confirmation battle.

Though the White House has publicly identified as many as 25 possible candidates to succeed Kennedy, the early favorites for the pick are drawn from a small crop of young appeals court judges popular in Washington’s conservative legal circles.

Speaking in the Oval Office shortly after Kennedy’s announcement, Trump confirmed he would draw his selection from a list of possible Supreme Court nominees assembled during the campaign. Five individuals were added to that list in November 2017.

These early favorites include Judges Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Raymond Kethledge of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and Diane Sykes of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

TCruz has recommended Senator Mike Lee. Would Lee be able to vote on his own confirmation if he were selected?

We also face Flake blocking the nomination.

Why do you think he will block the nomination? He hasn’t blocked any so far, and he may want a future in politics. He would truly have none were he to do this.

Oh, thank God that the F@ggot marriage Judge is finally going away! Now if we could just get rid of some of the Liberal idiots on the court.

Hopefully RBG will depart soon. I've also heard Sotomayor isn't in that good of health.

Manchin in WVa wouldn’t dare throw any hope of re-election away by opposing Trump’s pick. There are other Rat senators too. Trump has leverage to spare.

I hope that President Trump picks the one who is the most pro-Second Amendment. Anyone fitting that bill will similarly look at the rest of the Constitution with the eye and mind of an Originalist.

I think the republicans should go to war with democrats by having the president pick a young, gifted, conservative black woman.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Mike Lee a never-Trumper who was so full of hatred for Trump that he said he wouldn’t accept a Supreme Court nomination even if it was offered to him?

Excellent question. In general, Senators have great personal privilege, which suggests he could and would. I'm certainly unaware of any Senate rule preventing it.

No identity politics, please! Pick the best person for the job.

Personally - I’d go with Ted Cruz. Putting him there would make the rest of them quit within a week.

:-P

Senator Mike Lee was on Trump’s list and is a Mormon as I recall. Last year when Gorsuch was considered, Lee demurred, now he says he would consider it. I doubt Flake will block a Mormon.
