31% Think U.S. Civil War Likely Soon
Rasmussen reports ^

Posted on 06/27/2018 1:45:58 PM PDT by Eleutheria5

Most voters fear that political violence is coming from opponents of the president’s policies, just as they did in the second year of Barack Obama’s presidency, and nearly one-in-three think a civil war is next.

Thirty-one percent (31%) of Likely U.S. Voters say it’s likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years, with 11% who say it’s Very Likely. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 59% consider a second civil war unlikely, but that includes only 29% who say it’s Not At All Likely. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Democrats (37%) are more fearful than Republicans (32%) and voters not affiliated with either major party (26%) that a second civil war is at hand.

But 59% of all voters are concerned that those opposed to President Trump’s policies will resort to violence, with 33% who are Very Concerned. This compares to 53% and 28% respectively in the spring of Obama’s second year in office. Thirty-seven percent (37%) don’t share that concern, including 16% who are Not At All Concerned.

Fifty-three percent (53%) are concerned that those critical of the media’s coverage of Trump will resort to violence, with 24% who are Very Concerned. Forty-two percent (42%) are not concerned about violence from media opponents, including 17% who are Not At All Concerned.

Next time you cut and paste, please make this correction, “people just can not except” should be people just can not accept.

What? There were no riots in Detroit and Watts? No SLA or Weather Underground? No bell tower shootings or postal workers gone postal? Son of Sam? Kent State? They were pretty tame by today’s standards. But so was the Kishinev pogrom compared to the Holocaust.

The Gadsden Flag means everything to me. I was even born in Gadsden. Alabama that is.

Those are good points. Also I guess you could say that no country had ever really had sustained non-violent and disruptive protests over abortion as far as I know, either. There also are no chalk outlines and very, very, very few survivors with abortion, so maybe it is harder to get riled up about I guess. I don’t know, I always think about it and find it pretty shocking that nothing was done—no sustained general strike or whatever.

The reference was to the SCOTUS Roe V Wade ruling. Nobody rioted against abortion made legal in 1973. I say it was because only a handful of people who lived in the gutter and died ignominiously would ever be affected by abortion. That was the consensus back then.

Yeah, things will have to change drastically in my opinion to allow sustained widespread civil unrest. Like you say, the folks who dig the way the culture is going have no wish to scare the frog out of the pot.

I don’t see a civil war in the sense like the one the dictator Lincoln instigated.

More like a purge on the entrenched Washingtonians by the Executive, using the armed forces to conduct mass arrests, seizure of assets, executions, and effectively neutralize the oligarchy controlling government and the media of their power.

It would be confined to DC mostly, Congress, the Courts, the alphabet agencies and the media could effectively disappear tomorrow, with little effect on the rest of the Nation.

States would be free to govern themselves again.

People who like marxism can move to the marxist States and vice versa.

This “war” will not involve 2 armies facing off or civilians fighting in the streets against each other.

In the marxists States they will victimize each other after awhile, once the conservatives leave and the free money gets shut off a SHTF scenario will play out in some cities.

Mistake to think a civil war would be only political, like between Trump and Killary people. It will be racial, cultural (rednecks going after annoying hipsters and gays, etc and vice-versa) financial, and just plain old payback time for people who’ve held gtudges for years in some cases. One thing we can all agree on, it will be an epic clusterfuck!

I expect it will happen, the MSM is whipping up hatred daily.

The WWII generation was 50 yrs old when Roe v Wade came down and it’s not like they were politically organized. They voted and that’s about it.

If you wanted activism it came from the Left, from the Silent Generation and from older ‘Boomers.

Considering that the sexual revolution and the drug culture had been chugging along for about a decade it’s not like an abortion ruling was going to outrage a bunch of hedonists. And there were plenty of hedonists among conservatives in the libertarian camp, it divided more on religion than on politics.

Throw in Vietnam, Watergate, inflation, wage and price controls and there was plenty in the news to occupy peoples’ attention.

I can understand your concern but confess I was pro abortion at one point because as a man I considered it not my business to be involved in female issues.

The thing that turned my thinking is the third trimester abortion issue with the understanding that in one hospital, one operating theater could have a doctor helping a healthy 26 week baby to be born, and in the very next operating theater of the same hospital a doctor could be ending the life of a 26 week old fetus. That makes no sense. Knowing medical science year by year has reduced viable gestation times illustrates the fallacy of a victimless abortion.

Plus the current laws in many states whereby killing a pregnant woman is a double murder negates Roe v. Wade across the board. This double standard cannot stand.

In the state where I was born the code reads:

Ala. Code § 13A-6-1 (2006) defines "person," for the purpose of criminal homicide or assaults, to include an unborn child in utero at any stage of development, regardless of viability and specifies that nothing in the act shall make it a crime to perform or obtain an abortion that is otherwise legal.
So in Alabama, a criminal can get the death penalty but a doctor will get paid. At some point the ruling must be overturned even if only because it defies logic.

It would also be a mistake to discount white millennials, and young blacks and hispanics.

Don’t underestimate the opposition. Some of them are plenty smart. Millennial chicks will get involved, and they’re pissed! And they don’t like being called “chicks!” Lol.

"IMHO, civil war isn’t going to happen until the feral urban dwellers attempt to forcibly take over and occupy the suburbs en-mass via home invasion and open season on whites in their own houses."

I anticipate more of the same harassment tactics that we see right now expanding, not sure how, but I expect a wider range of targeted individuals (white, of course). Also, an ISIS style destruction of the symbols and facilities of civilization- libraries, gov't offices, more statues, etc, all coming from the rabid SJW and eco-freak, globul warmers.

Abolish the Slavery of Socialism and beat into the ground those who perpetrate it ...

Not so much a civil war as a curing of the country from leftist poison.

Terrorist Uprising will be exterminated by the sane people of this country and would be followed by the destruction of those who instigated it...
