EAST HANOVER, N.J. Everybody makes the team.
A New Jersey high school drew heat from students and parents for a new policy that says everyone makes the cheerleading squad or no one does.
According to WCBS, the change came after a mother complained that her child didnt make the cut. To make the cheerleading squad at Hanover Park High School, prospective members go through a tryout in which coaches score them on things like jumps and choreography before making their final picks for the team.
But after the mother whose daughter didnt make the squad complained after last months tryout, the school decided to try the new policy, which administrators said was intended to make cheerleading more inclusive.
In a letter to parents, the superintendent wrote that the tryout process was invalid and that the schools elite cheering teamthe Black Squadwould no longer be determined by skill level.
The cheerleader whose mother complained about the process made one of the lower-tier squads.
The superintendent told WCBS in an email that the new policy is in the best interest of our students and was made to be as inclusive as possible.
The change upset several parents and cheerleaders, including sophomore Stephanie Krueger, who said shes spent years training to make the team.
All the time Ive spent in my cheer gym practicing, constantly flipping, practicing my jumps, all was just like gone, Krueger told WCBS. I cant believe, like, my hard work just dropped. Its like telling a football player your star varsity football player they cant play anymore because we want to make it all inclusive.
The school board is reviewing the matter.
I didn’t think this decision would stick.
It takes a lot of work to be a good cheerleader, from what I’ve seen. Just wanting to do it, is not enough.
I’m glad the team members and their parents are speaking up.
There are times when a meritocracy cannot be substituted.
Notice, no one school official’s name is being put on this wacky decision. So they are protecting somebody. Probably somebody who never made the team herself as a student.
The responsibility rests square with those who made this decision. Parents have been complaining for many decades when their kid doesn’t make the cut. That is nothing new.
No matter how upset you are, don’t move to Texas.
DWTS ...and nobody gets eliminated.
Way to go, mom. Way to go, school administrators.
That’s why we suddenly see fat, uncoordinated cheerleaders.
Hmmmmmm.... I saw what you did there..
Everyone should get a 4.0 gpa. Better yet, everyone should get a 0.0 gpa.
Next up is allowing transgenders.
So, will anyone who wants to be on the football team automatically make the team, whether they any ability or not?
State doesn’t matter. All schools are run by extreme leftists. That’s all the teacher college graduate.
Awesome. I think I can now complain to the IOC and get that Olympic hockey gold medal I’ve always wanted.
And then the fail cheerleader team will complain when they are mocked at away games.
Nothing beats the legendary wrestling coach of Hunterdon Central of years ago - he had a squad of female cheerleaders, and they too were assigned weight classes and had to weigh in at every match, or they couldn’t cheer!
They would likely imprison him today for doing that.
I've never understood why companies, schools, government entities, etc always take this approach. So, someone is offended, or their feelings get hurt. Why do they always adopt a course that offends or pisses off more people to accommodate the few (or in this case one) snowflakes who complain? Why don't they decide that one or a few whiners is tolerable rather than pissing off the vast multitude?
This just proves that you cannot satisfy a liberal.
No matter what you do, you will be harangued.................
I though that was the football team..................
