“I had to show my voter registration card and accordingly, was given a straight Republican ballot.”

By contrast, people showing a Democrat voter registration card were given a gay Democrat ballot. : )

OK, just trying to be helpful.

I think Jim does yeoman’s work in providing this platform for conservative viewpoints & dialog. I donate monthly but that doesn’t begin to cover the time & dedication involved. I’m sure if you wanted to offer your assistance to add a quote button he would entertain the offer.

What are the NC details? Were there competitive R races, or not?

Its hard to see how they could offer him anywhere close to enough to run.

That’s unfortunate to hear about NC-02. I used to live in what is now NC-02 (it was part of NC-04 back then), and looking at the map, it ought to be a solid Republican seat these days. The old days where Jesse-crats would keep the seat safe for Bob Etheridge should be over.

Here are the results for the NC primaries: https://www.politico.com/election-results/2018/north-carolina/

In NC-02, 32,751 voted in the Democrat primary (which highly touted liberal Linda Coleman won with 56% in a three-candidate field), and only 23,071 voted in the GOP primary (in which incumbent George Holding handily defeated his sole challenger with 76.5%). The Democrat primary was more hotly contested, but that still doesn’t explain why 42% more Democrats than Republicans voted in a suburban Republican district in which voters generally are registered with the party for which they vote in November.

In NC-09, 45,660 voted in the not-very-competitive Democrat primary (which Dan McCready won with 82.8%) while 35,494 voted in the red-hot GOP primary (in which challenger Mark Harris knocked off incumbent Robert Pittenger 48.5% to 46.2%, with 5.2% going to a third candidate). The GOP contest had a lot more publicity and campaign advertising, and Republicans have a big registered-voter advantage in suburban NC-09, so the results can’t be described as anything less than disappointing.

NC-02 and NC-09 were the two NC districts that I thought might be vulnerable this November, and nothing that I saw last night assuaged my concerns. That being said, I think that it will be easier for Mark Harris to hold NC-09 than it would have been for the unpopular Pittenger, so I disagree with the conventional wisdom of the Toupees that Pittenger’s defeat was good news for the Democrats.

I hear turnout was good in WV (huge GOP jump though still more rat votes cast) and Indiana as well, don’t know about NC.

The primary for the crucial OH-12 (vacant) special (and also the separate primary for the general) was narrowly won by State Senator Troy Balderson in a crowded field. Many conservatives backed runner up Melanie Leneghan, but I don’t feel too bad having a more seasoned candidate carrying the banner there.

WV Tidbits,

A progtard won the rat primary for WV-1 over the DCCC pick, good news.

State House Majority Whip Carol Miller won the GOP primary for CD-3. She faces Rat State Senator Richard Ojeda, he claims he voted for Trump but was a Berner in the rat primates and is now extremely anti-Trump “personally pro-life” aka pro-abortion, he was a primary challenger to Rahall in 2014, from the right IIRC. Daily Kos loves him.

Literal RINO Democrat plant Justin Hough, endorsed by the far left Working Families party, narrowly lost a primary challenge for State Delegate in a safe GOP area. Close call.

Recently, there were some infamous photos taken where he was being "honored" by pro-lifers and pro-aborts.

He's really just another Democrat phony who will save whatever to whichever side. But his 92% leftist rating was really telling. He picked his side, and he will sail off into history after the November elections.

Is there a reason ? Yes. It was quite plain that the party establishment backed Gonzalez over Hagan. Hagan was reviled by the party establishment.

Establishment candidates have a singularly nasty habit of lying about how “Conservative” they are. We’ve got a guy running for TN Governor talking about how “Conservative” he is, airing scores of ads claiming so, despite the fact he is anything but, donating a quarter-million to La Raza and having the backing of the party establishment. People lie to get elected, and RINOs lie as much as their Democrat friends. To the GOP base, they’ll pretend to be to the right of Trump, and once in office, we soon find out it’s horsecrap.

As for Gonzalez, it doesn’t really matter what he says or puts on his website, I take a look at who is backing him. But ultimately, we won’t know for certain until he starts voting. If he votes right, it will be a pleasant surprise. If he doesn’t, it will prove that the establishment backing was a huge red flag that he wasn’t with us. But to the point, I’ve seen this dog and pony show for decades and I’m not being fooled again.

You mean Gonzalez. As for analyzing folks through a sports prism, I have a blind spot in that regard. I know as much about and have as much interest in sports as your average leftist does about patriotism and morality.

Arpaio needs to get the hell out of the Senate race. He’s the single impediment to Ward getting the nomination.

I agree. Just because Balderson has experience in the legislature and running campaigns diesn’t mean that he’s no conservative.

Turnout in WV wasn’t bad for us, considering the huge RAT advantage in voter registration. And IN and OH were huge for us—it bodes very well for November. As for NC, it was OK outside of NC-02 and NC-09, but the GOP will need much better turnout in those two CDs

In voter registration? It’s still a big rat edge. Wikipedia has 2014 figures and has nearly half (49%) of WV voters registered rat to 29% GOP. I doubt we’ve overcome that advantage yet though I’m sure there’s been movement.

Voter registration is one the last things to change, you’ve had registered democrats voting straight Republican throughout the South for a while now.

In the Senate primary it was 159,891 rat votes and 136,220 R, which is only a 54-46 rat edge as opposed to the over 3 to 2 rat edge in those 2014 registration figures. Fox had some idiot on who implied it was bad for us that there were more rat votes, clearly he was ignorant of the fact that it’s actually narrowing in our favor.

As WV Nan notes, many of her D friends vote R. They just haven’t change their registration.

I don't think voters register by party in most states. They certainly don't in Illinois.

If you went by number of GOP ballots cast in primary elections vs. number of RAT ballots cast in primary elections, the RATs have a big edge though. I think even traditionally "solidly Republican" countries have a clear majority of RAT primary voters.

>> Establishment candidates have a singularly nasty habit of lying about how “Conservative” they are. <<

I just brought up a similar topic on the Illinois board, where current Lake Co. GOP Mark Shaw is challenging incumbent Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schindler from the right and claiming to be the "more conservative" candidate, while all the evidence in history shows that he's likely to be the LESS conservative candidate (Shaw represents the 10th District and was a loyal Mark Kirk cheerleader, supported RINO Jack Dorgan for IL GOP chairman the last time around, and has been to the LEFT of Rauner on illegals, as Shaw is a proponent of open borders and amnesty, etc.)

The only thing Shaw has going for him is some prominent conservative voices in the state legislature have endorsed him, like Jeanne Ives and David McSweeney. Shades of Liz Cheney vs. Mike Enzi primary where Cheney was a RINO establishment hack trying to present himself as the true conservative anti-establishment Tea Party challenger.

I only got to touch on the topic briefly before some other IL FReepers hijacked the thread and turned it into a Rauner vs. Pritzler discussion instead.

I’m shocked.

How’s it going with the candidacy of Sen. Sam McCann for Governor ? Let the left divide the vote between Pritzker and Rauner.
