Are You a Victim of Gaslighting?
U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT ^ | 25-Apr-2018 | Stacey Colino

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN A fight with a family member or significant other and had the other person categorically deny facts that you both know are true? Have you ever had a boss or colleague blame you so convincingly for something he or she did that you ended up doubting your memory? Or, when you've questioned someone about what he or she was doing in a particular instance, has the person turned around and accused you of being crazy, confused, overly sensitive or ... (fill in the insult)?

If so, you're no stranger to gaslighting: an insidious form of psychological manipulation that can be hard to recognize and even more difficult to deal with. The recent spate of sexual misconduct scandals, workplace bullying stories and conspiratorial political power plays that have been in the news has shed a bright light on gaslighting.

[SNIP]However and wherever it happens, the goal of the perpetrator is to convince you that "you're misremembering, misunderstanding or misinterpreting your own behavior or motivations, thus creating doubt in your mind that leaves you vulnerable and confused,” explains psychoanalyst Robin Stern, associate director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence

The term comes from the 1944 movie "Gaslight," a mystery-thriller in which a man slowly tricks and manipulates his wife into believing she is losing her mind so that he can have her certified as insane and institutionalized. In real life, gaslighting can happen in any relationship. Sometimes it's unintentional – perhaps reflecting someone's desire to deflect responsibility for a mistake or cover up something unsavory he or she is doing (like having an affair or abusing drugs). But some people engage in it intentionally and regularly – and that's when it can have an especially toxic effect. Gaslighting is "an extremely dangerous form of emotional abuse because it undermines your self-confidence," notes psychologist Craig Malkin, a lecturer at Harvard Medical School and author of the book "Rethinking Narcissism: The Secret to Recognizing and Coping with Narcissists."

Liberals gaslight conservatives every day and trick us into thinking whatever happens is our fault.

More often than not, they get away with it.

Yes, five times - THAT’S FIVE TIMES - in one weekend Susan Rice lied to me and every other American claiming it was a video - which almost no one saw - that triggered a spontaneous riot that led to the murder of four Americans in Benghazi. In reality, it was a terrorist attack and she knew it the whole time.

This morning, Victor Blackwell at CNN lead with a story about a new study that has determined that President Trump has lied 1,950 times since he took office.

Well, I didn’t even get angry. I was too busy laughing, almost spit up my coffee.

“Gaslighting” has been around forever.

But it only works on the ignorant and easily led.

CNN and their ilk have lost their credibility. They would have gone broke by now except for the built-in income they get from cable networks. That’s right, they get paid even if few are watching.

If the cable and syndicated networks didn’t have such a monopoly with sweetheart contracts all over, the CNNs, et al, would have to improve their programming.

When more streaming services that have a true pick and choose programming start to dominate, “gaslighting” and other fake news will die off to just their moron diehards.

There are several variations of gaslighting.

Sometimes we (on all sides of an issue) don’t want to face the truth. Many people vote against a candidate, not for the other candidate. Rarely does the winner have a mandate. But we want to gaslight ourselves into believing it.

Likewise, losers do not want to face the reality that they lost. So they create gaslight fantasies to explain why they really did not lose.

In sports, we blame the ref. We blame the clock. We blame the fan in the stadium who catches the foul ball the player would have caught.

We do the same in our personal lives. Many of us have a negative net worth and live paycheck to paycheck. We gaslight that because the cost of government is 43% to 47% for each of us who works hard and has to fork over our money to the government.

We do the same in politics. We gaslight Russian Collusion. We gaslight racism, nazis, that dreaded alt-Right. We also gaslight illegal aliens.

The left portrays illegals as living in the shadows, living in fear, petrified.
Some anti-illegal voices go to the other extreme that all illegals are terrible people ... just because they did not play mother-may-I with the Nanny state.

The truth is that not all illegals are the same. Extremely few live in fear...and those that do have mental problems and are no more common than mental problems in the rest of us. And although a significant minority of illegals are undesirable and should be deported because they are undesirable and cost the government big money, the majority of illegals are a benefit to society.

For example, here in inner city Atlanta many construction sites have help-wanted signs. They cannot find enough workers. They would hire any citizen able to do construction work. E.g. they would hire excons. But citizens on welfare are not taking these jobs.

And wage rate? How much is an excon with no high school and 3rd grade ability in reading and math, and no work history and no marketable skills... how much is he worth per hour?

But we gaslight and say illegals are taking jobs from citizens.

Have I gaslighted at times? Maybe. But let’s be honest about this gaslighting.

Absolutely. They are usually guilty of what they accuse conservatives of doing.

Liberal gaslighting:
* We’re love, peace, tolerance, rational, educated, so everything we do is smart and sane and you’re a crazy evil hater.
* Just let them pee by you, they just want to love each other. How can you get in the way of that?
* You’re a crazy evil hater if you don’t go along with our demands. You already agreed. You already said it was OK.
* Bailey and motte arguments. Love and tolerant means whatever it needs to mean for me to win the argument. You’re always wrong, how dare you. Words only have the meanings that make me look good and you bad.
* How dare you try to lay limits! You’re a crazy evil hater. You already agreed to this, you can’t tell me no, bigot.

“No collusion? Of course there was collusion. There wouldn’t be an investigation if there weren’t evidence of collusion. Only a nut believes there wasn’t any collusion. Every sane person knows that.”

Liberal/Progressive/Dems, with the assistance of the MSM, have been “Gas Lighting” the American public since the 1960’s.

George Orwell Quote:

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture repainted, every statue and street building renamed, every date altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has been stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party Islam is always right.”

All to bring about a Worldwide Socialist dictatorship.

You couldn’t be more wrong. The presence and availability of illegal labor falsely depresses wages so that an excon or welfare recipient cannot afford to take the job and the inherent loss of taxpayer subsidy... Then your illegal does not pay taxes, robbing the taxpayer twice.

Do you mean like 9 years ago when Barry Soeotoro stood up in front of the greatest country on the planet and told every single one of us that we were to blame for the woes of all our countrymen and even responsible for the Arab flight away from their homelands? Told us how broke down, over extended, racist, homophobic, maniacal gun owning rednecks that we are?

You mean something like that?

“Gaslighting” has been around forever. But it only works on the ignorant and easily led. --- “Ignorance is of a peculiar nature: once dispelled, it is impossible to re-establish it. It is not originally a thing of itself, but is only the absence of knowledge; and though man may be kept ignorant, he cannot be made ignorant.” ― Thomas Paine, The Rights Of Man
