A congressional committee report states that a large electromagnetic pulse (EMP) inundating America could cause 90% of Americans to die. The EMP is inevitable. The dead Americans are not.
Pry explained that an EMP can happen in a few different ways: if an adversary attacks America using nuclear weapons, or naturally via a large solar storm. The reason why a large EMP hitting Earth is inevitable is that solar storms are inevitable. They happen regularly. The only question is when a large one will cross Earth's path. For instance, NASA reported that if a solar superstorm from 2012 had happened just one week earlier, it would have blasted the Earth with a catastrophic EMP. We are playing this slot machine every day. Eventually, we're going to hit the jackpot.

Someplace I read or heard that the lead time on some of the replacement equipment (from China) is two years. But that could be a longer time if its a solar storm hitting the planet. And who says anyone would help us out anyway?
><><
I’ve read the same things. Not good.
Me, Id rather NOT take a chance when it comes to something that has a significantly greater than 0% chance of ending our nation, or at least hurting us a LOT. The $20 billion to $50 billion that itd cost us to significantly ameliorate the effects of an EMP, spread over 10-20 years, is peanuts compared to what we spend on utter crap that does us no good whatsoever.
><
Right on!!
That’s it, I’ve had it, I am leaving this planet.
The whole thing reminds me of arguments I had with friends in high school back in 1971. They would say things like, “what are you going to do if the government doesn’t honor your U.S. Savings Bond.” My response was that if we find ourselves in an environment where they are not honoring savings bond’s that is going to be the least of your problems.
I’ve been on sites where nearly all were whining that they couldn’t bear to live if this were to happen. Such a bunch of babies. Zero willpower, zero skills, zero, zero, zero. They’d rather have a green crayon than an extra can of green beans.
Lightening struck our house frying the tv, freezer and everything along one circuit. Not fun.
I did the math for that in post #56...
Only stupid people** believe man-made EMP, more than several miles from the source, will cause any damage whatsoever.
—————————————————————————]
As a “stupid people,” I actually went to the article from Popular Mechanics that was referenced in your link.
It should be noted that the Popular Mechanics article is a year old (lots of facts about Norks and their nuclear capabilities have changed since). The major premise of the article is that Norks could not kill 90 percent of Americans with an EMP because they don’t have Nukes. Secondary premise is that nuke-caused EMP would not do the damage “stupid people” believe.
That said, it is Popular Mechanics...it was not sourced with any experts, and the author is a journalist, not a PhD. I have never considered Popular Mechanics to be heavy, serious reading, so I am not surprised that no experts quoted and author is a journalist.
The article’s author drew a number of questionable conclusions but it should be noted that did he not rule out devastation caused by other sources of EMPs such as Carrington event...
“Stupid People”...**Dr Pry is considered America’s foremost expert on this topic. He has two Ph.D.s and a certificate on nuclear weapon design, worked at the CIA for a decade, worked on the House Armed Services Committee, and then served as director of the EMP Committee.

Talk about your uneven ground potential... LOL
I'll never forget. Around 1987 I think. We had just turned up a small remote site and had noise complaints from customers. The Grounding Engineer pulled out an old hand held transistor radio from his pocket. He shoved the tuner dial all the way over as far as it would go and started walking around the raised floor. He found several raised floor pedestals that were acting as antennas. That was just his quick check. He pulled out all of his high tech gear to verify and isolate the problems. There was also a nearby ATC Radar site that was interfering.
So, in addition to the house wiring, other factors could exacerbate the situation you described. Multiple ground taps on different points on cold water pipes... etc.

Speak for yourself. We keep 12 mos of survival food, 3 large blue plastic water tanks filled, 2 gravity water filters, grain grinder, flint strikers, life straws, 4 chickens and raised bed garden. Yes we went prepper crazy about 8 years ago. Lol!
My response was to a CME EMP, not a nuclear EMP. Please don’t conflate these two types of EMP as the poster I replied to has.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse
“An electromagnetic pulse (EMP), also sometimes called a transient electromagnetic disturbance, is a short burst of electromagnetic energy. Such a pulse’s origination may be a natural occurrence or man-made and can occur as a radiated, electric, or magnetic field or a conducted electric current, depending on the source.”
Heh! We did too, but not THAT crazy. ;)
We’re just finishing our “permanent” chicken run this weekend. We have no survival food though, other than the “food” running around the property. :)
Isnt this why we have the flux capacitor ?!
Yes, and in a few years, or was it 2015, the Mr. Fusion adapter will replace the messy plutonium needed for the necessary 1.21 gigawatts.

Thank you for the ping. 90%, thats amazing. Itll be tough going for those that are left.
Something is going to collapse civilization within nations that have turned their backs on God and embraced reprobate perversion... like the U.S. is currently doing.
Such cataclysmic destruction has happened to every civilization that has done so throughout the history of the world. The collapse of societies can be directly correlated with their decline into perversion. The rise and acceptance of murder is a good indicator of such tolerance of perversion. In some cultures this takes the form of human sacrifice in idol worship. In ours it happens to be in abortion.
Normalcy bias causes people to imagine life will go on just as we’ve always known it. But cataclysm always follows.
This is why today is the National Day of Prayer. Without God no other remedies will protect our economy, health, or national security.
We are going to get some more chickens soon but we keep putting it off because introducing new hens means about 30 days of chaos before the old ones accept them. We did it a couple of years ago and I almost had a nervous breakdown. LOL!
A Carrington Event DOES have the potential to eliminate the electrical infrastructure.
But it is several orders of magnitude more powerful than nukes.
Dude there are tens of thousands if not millions of “EMP” strikes every day.... It’s called lightning.
A Carrington Event DOES have the potential to eliminate the electrical infrastructure.
