EAST MONTPELIER Producers of pure maple syrup and honey arent sweet on a plan to label their pure natural products as containing added sugars.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will be requiring updated nutrition labels for products that are expected to say that pure maple syrup and honey contain added sugars, which the producers and officials say is misleading and confusing and could hurt their industries.
"There are no added sugars. Maple is a pure product," said U.S. Rep. Peter Welch of Vermont, the top maple producing state in the country.

“What other lies does the government promote?”
No room for that list here...government is mostly lies.

OOPS! USDA should have been USFDA.
Of course my comment also applies to the USDA for the most part. The only caveat being that it’s possible only 90% of USDA managers are f-—ed in the head.
Processed by non-human life forms.
Pure Syrup must have some inorganic minerals in it.
It is not like there are guys out in the woods fertilizing the Sugar Maple trees.

Maybe not but what about those Bears that, ya know, sh*t in the woods? What about that....?
When I've bought Maple Syrup in places like Vermont it typically says (as I recall) "100% Pure Maple Syrup" and "All Natural". I don't recall it saying "Organic". A breif look on Amazon shows that my recollection is mostly correct, some do say "organic", others just 100% pure / all natural. Either way, nobody's adding sugar to it.
I think he means pure as in no additives, sugar in this case would be an additive. Sugar by itself is pure.

I guess the Food & Drug Bosses are now going to tell the bees they MUST reduce the amount of sweetner in their honey. It makes one wonder about these great thinkers in the organization. I remember when they were telling the US citizens pepper was a danger to their lives.
good one. :)
I have tried “maple syrup”, labeled as such, that clearly had a lot of corn syrup added. I understand the same thing is done to some honey, especially from China. Those mixtures should require clear labeling. But pure honey? Pure maple syrup? Nope. This is FedGov, as usual, going overboard.
This sounds like a con which the high fructose corn syrup people would support. 100% maple syrup is often replaced by a disgusting glop with HFCS as its primary ingredient. Even in supposedly quality restaurants, this often happens. Aunt Jemima must be rolling over in her grave!
List of ingredients should clear it up.
Maple tree sap.
- as opposed to ones with added sugar:
maple tree sap, cane sugar
maple tree sap, agave
(or anything else)
So you don’t know about the new Monsanto genetically modified super maple trees that cause autism???

Mmmmm.....i LOVE Maple syrup.
just bought a new waffle iron and the waffles only take 3 1/2 minutes to cook.
yum
Went up to the White Mountains of NH last month and bought a jug of New Hampshire maple syrup.
verrry delicious..
This reminds me of the guy who produces natural skim milk with no additives. Skim milk is made by separating the fat from the milk, leaving the thin watery stuff that no one likes to drink. The process that removes the fat also removes the vitamin D, so synthetic vitamin D is added back in to the milk. The government considers the milk with the added Vitamin D to be “real” skim milk, and the guy who makes the real original skim milk is supposed to label his as “synthetic skim milk”, even though his is 100% natural.
“High mineral content in maple syrup has been known for years. Manganese, magnesium, calcium and zinc make maple syrup’s mineral content similar to that of molasses without its overpowering taste.”
So, organic syrup does have some inorganic content.

Don’t give them any ideas!
Not if they are free range trees.
