The shadow war between Israel and Iran in Syria escalated sharply on Monday after suspected Israeli strikes killed 26 Iranian and Assad regime fighters, according to monitors.
One strike tore through a military base dug into a mountain near the central city of Hama on Sunday night, causing an explosion so large it registered as a 2.6 magnitude earthquake. A second strike targeted an airbase near the northern city of Aleppo.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack but suspicion immediately fell on Israel, which has carried out a number of strikes as it tries to prevent Iran from building up a military presence in Syria and transferring weapons to Hizbollah, the Lebanese military group.

I doubt many Freepers begrudge Israel's right to self defense and taking preemptive actions against Iran. What some of us do not want to see is American treasure thrown away needlessly in a fight that maybe not ours. That is the debatable question.
In what alternate universe is peace breaking out in the Middle East? The fulfillment of Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38 is at hand.
There shouldnt be any Iranians in Syria.
This is an example of poor reporting, I think.
It is possible that the explosion registered a “spike” of 2.6 on one or more seismographs located close to where the bomb struck. However, a single instantaneous localized spike is not the same thing as an earthquake.
The same ordnance used against the Lebanese terrorist bunkers filled with Iranian missiles will probably have the same effect — we’ll know soon enough.
MOAB first and then the internal munitions going off
Boom
Then BOOM!
Find the video of a MOAB drop in Afghanistan against just such a position on YT
Nor in North Korea, yet there they are...
I don’t want to become embroiled in another mid-east conflict either. However, Iran could not have made their intentions to harm us (they did in Iraq) and Israel any clearer. We can either deal with it now or deal with it later after they use a nuclear weapon(s) against us or Israel. They have stated their intentions very clearly. The path is now clear for Israel to target their #1 aggressor - Iran. Much of the Arab world will cheer.
Is it dangerous because of the reaction it may bring? Yes. Is it more dangerous to kick the can again with diplomacy and aircraft full of cash? Yes.
We can argue our involvement and boots on the ground and likely agree that we do not want that, but the biggest threat in the Middle East is Iran and if they are not dealt with there will be a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. If it were up to me we would not only tear up the agreement with Iran..... we would destroy their military as we should have when they supplied IED’s to target our soldiers in Iraq. There is always risks, but I have NO doubt in my mind that there is one state in the world that would use nuclear weapons almost immediately - Iran.
This Neville Chamberlain agreement for “peace in our time” that the EU and last administration entered into is a farce. Confront them now before they obtain nuclear weapons.
What weapon?
That depends a lot on what was inside the target.
A few weeks ago, the Iranian oil tanker burned and sunk.
What was the back-haul for the ship?
sank. (fingers faster than the brain... :)
Whenever I mistakenly read Zero Hedge, even though the articles are somewhat informative, the bulk of the comments are almost uniformly anti-Israel and, unfortunately, anti-Semitic. When I read FR, the articles about Israel likewise are informative but the comments are thoughtful. Even when a comment is critical of some action by Israel, generally the argument is based on a disagreement with policy and does not include anti-Israel or anti-Semitic vitriol. The difference is noticeable and welcomed.
Quake sounds like a secondary explosion.
Better question- What stored ordnance exploded by a tactical missile or bomb would cause a 2.6 reading on seismic sensors?
Or, which seismic detectors (how close to impact location) provided the readings being reported?
They made it clear with the attack on our Embassy in Tehran as well as the Marine barracks in Beirut. Also worth remembering the largest terror attack in our hemisphere pre 9/11 was pulled off by Iran in Argentina, a Jewish center, Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina. They have reach.
Gog and Magog.
There is only one state that has ACTUALLY used nukes.....us.
There is absolutely no power MORE ubiquitous in the Middle East than....us.
There seems to be no limit to how much blood and treasure the chickenhawks want to throw away in the Middle East.
To make the world as “safe” as you seem to want to make it would require the U.S. to conquer (or set up puppet-governments) everywhere. Hell, part of the reason we can’t get Europeans of their fat asses (and contributing significantly to their own defense) is the fact that we subsidize their security with our military....enough!
Peace is braking out all over and Israel is pushing for war. If this was done by Israel, doesnt it give justification to Iran and Syria for wanting to have strong military capability?
Rockets were inside the ammo dump. Did you notice the halo detonation after the initial blast? That was the fuses of the rockets which were blown into the air all going off at the same time as the rockets started to decelerate. Pretty cool.
Israel has no right to attack other countries and then demand they be unable to defend themselves.
