President Trump on Thursday argued that he'd rather see the presidential election be determined based on the popular vote than the current Electoral College system, claiming it would be "much easier to win."
"They also like to always talk about [the] Electoral College. Well, it's an election based on the Electoral College. I would rather have a popular election, but it's a totally different campaign," Trump said during an interview with "Fox & Friends."
"It's as though you're running if you're a runner you're practicing for the 100-yard dash as opposed to the one mile," he continued. "The Electoral College is different. I would rather have the popular vote, because it's to me, it's much easier to win."
Trump defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, securing 304 electoral votes to Clinton's 207.
However, Clinton defeated Trump in the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes.
Trump has claimed without any evidence that his defeat in the popular vote was due to widespread voter fraud.
The president has frequently touted his election victory in the 15 months hes been in office, often explaining that it is difficult for a Republican to win the general election based on the way votes are divvied up in the Electoral College.
A month after the election, Trump took to Twitter to claim that he would have performed "even better" in the 2016 campaign if it had been based on the popular vote.
"Campaigning to win the Electoral College is much more difficult & sophisticated than the popular vote. Hillary focused on the wrong states!" he tweeted, referencing his Democratic opponent.
I will refrain.....
I get what he is saying, and he is not advocating to change from the electoral college. He is just saying that it would be a whole lot easier if a candidate only had to campaign in three states and could ignore the rest. That’s why we have the EC, so you cant ignore the rest.
EPIC TROLLING!
Yep. And he's damn good at it.
Dumb idea.
I'd say based on this thread that he's trolling us too, myself included. I hope he's only trolling us. But why would he be trolling us?
One of his techniques is to embrace the Left’s axioms & goals, driving them away from those foundational issues via their absolute imperative of “never agree with Trump”. Result is he’s gradually tearing apart their base, since they’d rather confront & beat him on any given point lest they actually work _with_ him toward a common goal. He gives them a choice of self-destruction vs empowering him; they’d rather betray their base than cooperate.
What a fool. He would have lost in 2016. And if they chane it now to just popular vote based, he’d lose in 2020
“He would have lost.”
He would have run a completely different campaign (as he said) and still won.
Knowing full well that the electoral college is safely tucked away in the Constitution. Trump wants to watch their brains explode. It seems to be working even the Maha Rushie is freaked by Trump when he throws more chum in the water. I’m quite sure Trump knows that with a little incentive they will blow things up in time for Trump’s Deplorables to be in great shape just before the election. Something in that line about feed’em fish.
Better!!
How many people in California didn’t even bother to vote, because they knew the vote in that State was a foregone conclusion?
“Trump has claimed without any evidence...”
The positions of politicians are never reported with the caveat that no supporting evidence was offered, except in the case of President Trump.
he’s joking.
Relax. He is trolling Hitlery.
He's not saying that he prefers the popular vote over the Electoral College on the merits of it. He's only saying he prefers it because it's easier to win.
That's simply the cost-return logic of it. We all know the reason for the Electoral College is that the popular vote is too easy to win.

Ditto.....Uh no!
