Earlier today, a madman with a gun opened fire on a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee. But one hero ran towards the bullets instead of away from them. Police say James Shaw Jr.s actions saved many lives.
From The Tennessean:
"James Shaw Jr., 29, said after feeling cornered he saw an opportunity to tackle the man shooting into an Antioch Waffle House. He said he doesnt feel like a hero.
Police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters Sunday morning that the Waffle House hero rushed the suspected shooter, disarmed him and threw the assault rifle he was carrying over the counter.
I dont really know, when everyone said that (of being a hero), it feels selfish, Shaw Jr. I was just trying to get myself out. I saw the opportunity and pretty much took it.
Shaw Jr. said he was at a fraternity house party before heading to the Bell Road Waffle House at about 2:30 a.m. with some friends. They left soon after because it was too packed, he said."
Shaw Jr. was determined to stop the shooter.
"I remember I was like Dang, Im basically in a barrel, Shaw Jr. said. There is no place for me to go.
As the suspect came through the door, he needed to reload, Shaw Jr. said. Thats when he said he rushed him.
When he came in, I distinctively remember thinking that he is going to have to work for this kill, Shaw Jr. said. I had a chance to stop him and thankfully I stopped him.
He added: I grabbed the gun and kept it down. He had one hand on it. I pulled it away and threw it over the bar.
The suspect then ran outside and escaped. Shaw Jr. did not follow him because he did not know if the suspect had any other weapons on his body.

After suffering a few scrapes on his elbow and being discharged from the hospital, Shaw Jr attended church with his mother.
James' aunt just told me that after being discharged from the hospital, he went home & changed clothes... and is now "in church with his mama. We are so proud of him." https://t.co/LNnyRUvCSH Dianne Gallagher (@DianneG) April 22, 2018
Its illegal to own one."
Good question. Also, why did he murder people? I believe that's against the law.
Guess only the lawless & criminals disobey laws.
This guy is a ballys hero. Waffle Houses are the wild west in the deep of the night.
He looks similar to the parkland shooter and the batman freak shooter.
Give that man waffles for life!
So the peep was arrested near the White House last year. His firearms were removed from his possession, and the perp’s father later gave the perp back the weapons?! If that’s the case the perp’s father should be in some serious legal hot water...
I think you’ve got a large part of it — mentally unbalanced losers who crave fame and notoriety. They feel their lives have no significance and they try to make a media splash to be remembered.
If we consider that there have to be a lot more than a million such people in this country (possibly many millions) we are actually lucky that there are not a lot more such events.
The interesting thing about that is that apparently the Postal Service figured out how to stop these shootings from happening. You never hear about them now.
The Feds took his guns and gave them to daddy. Then daddy gave them back to the kid. LE is stuck on stupid.
You may have a point. They let one incident calm down then another one happens. Stirring the pot as it were. It does appear to be a dim plot to rid us of our right to own firearms.
I was going to say the same thing. Why show 2 random old guys if the hero was a 29 year old. Does not make sense.
:-)
Yeah...two different kinds of parents. One gives firearms back to son after state revoked his firearm rights. The other parent goes to church with her son hours after he gets banged up disarming a guy shooting up a restaurant.
And this guy is still on the loose. His vehicle is in the parking lot at Waffle House. Is he on foot? Does he have the two missing firearms with him? Steal a car? Take hostage? It’s been over 12 hours...maybe he killed himself?

I went three and got a bachelors. I was BAF. Did not need to study. Everyone around me kept complaining about how hard it was. Took graduate level classes and meh. Convinced the Dean of the Business school to create a new major. I got to take classes on a whim. Meteorology actually ended up being helpful when I was trading ag commodities. It is something that doesn’t come from your gut. BTW global warming/climate change is a hoax. The low sunspot activity on the sun indicates we are going into another mauder like minimum. Bundle up folks. It is going to be cold. ie. Winter is coming.
The heck with waffles - upgrade his hash browns for free every time: scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, diced, peppered, capped, & topped...i.e. “all the way.”

Medal of Freedom for this guy!!!
It always includes tickets to the football game and a beer kegger party afterwards at the fraternity house thrown by the current student fraternity actives for their alumni brothers.
I will attend the ball game and the beer party. And I'm not 29 like our hero. I'm 70. But I will party with my college buddies.
Imagine that. Alumni and actives mingling together at a party like they were fraternity brothers or something.
I’m puzzled that anybody would pick this Waffle House for an early breakfast after a frat party. Vanderbilt and MTSU are both a long drive away from that part of Nashville.
