Earlier today, a madman with a gun opened fire on a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee. But one hero ran towards the bullets instead of away from them. Police say James Shaw Jr.s actions saved many lives.
From The Tennessean:
"James Shaw Jr., 29, said after feeling cornered he saw an opportunity to tackle the man shooting into an Antioch Waffle House. He said he doesnt feel like a hero.
Police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters Sunday morning that the Waffle House hero rushed the suspected shooter, disarmed him and threw the assault rifle he was carrying over the counter.
I dont really know, when everyone said that (of being a hero), it feels selfish, Shaw Jr. I was just trying to get myself out. I saw the opportunity and pretty much took it.
Shaw Jr. said he was at a fraternity house party before heading to the Bell Road Waffle House at about 2:30 a.m. with some friends. They left soon after because it was too packed, he said."
Shaw Jr. was determined to stop the shooter.
"I remember I was like Dang, Im basically in a barrel, Shaw Jr. said. There is no place for me to go.
As the suspect came through the door, he needed to reload, Shaw Jr. said. Thats when he said he rushed him.
When he came in, I distinctively remember thinking that he is going to have to work for this kill, Shaw Jr. said. I had a chance to stop him and thankfully I stopped him.
He added: I grabbed the gun and kept it down. He had one hand on it. I pulled it away and threw it over the bar.
The suspect then ran outside and escaped. Shaw Jr. did not follow him because he did not know if the suspect had any other weapons on his body.

After suffering a few scrapes on his elbow and being discharged from the hospital, Shaw Jr attended church with his mother.
James' aunt just told me that after being discharged from the hospital, he went home & changed clothes... and is now "in church with his mama. We are so proud of him." https://t.co/LNnyRUvCSH Dianne Gallagher (@DianneG) April 22, 2018
you can tell by the face the hero makes the wound hurts
Yes he does
“29 years old and going to Frat parties?”
Maybe he’s a former military who’s going to college on the GI bill. I was 29 when I started college.
I understand the shooter ran after he was disarmed.
By the looks of the young hero, he probably would have put the perp in bad condition if he had lingered.
I went 6 1/2. But I co-op’d and got my masters.
How did the shooter obtain an “assault rifle”?
It’s illegal to own one.
I saw his picture in another article earlier. That is the only way I knew.
Exactly.
Just saw a photo of the shooter suspect- Gotch-eyed, as usual. His left eye is way higher than his right eye. ( It must give him a slanted outlook on everything.) Seems like a great many of these shooters are gotcheyed in some way. They said (Fox News) that he tried to get to the White House and was arrested for that.
You ever hear of alumni?
Good job Mr. Shaw.

I went back to school at 40 yrs old and started dating a college girl.
(Truth be told, she was a "non traditional student" too and a few months older than me. :-)
On the side it says: Travis Reinking, 29, of Morton, Illinois, was being sought as a person of interest in a shooting at an Antioch, Tennessee Waffle House that left 3 dead and 4 hurt
I’m tired of this silliness. Do Mothers Against Drunk Driving set up drunks to kill people with cars too? Does the NRA set up shootings with armed people nearby to stop the killing and make a splash?
These shootings are not false flag conspiracies. People have lost their minds with conspiracy theories about everything that happens. These shootings are driven by media coverage because the biggest thing in life today worldwide is to be famous, period.
Ah—I see. I have to admit, though, that the poster’s characterization of, ‘a hard 29 yrs,’ was very funny. I enjoy a bon mot.
Free waffles for life.
Absolutely!!
“I was 29 when I started college.”
And look how good you turned out.
