One of the U.S. Navys newest littoral combat ship is finally underway to her homeport in Mayport, Florida after spending the winter stuck in ice in Montreal.

Don’t think I’d want to be that skipper.
Great leadership by the Captain of the ship. What incompetence.
how many new American citizen’s by marriage will the crew bring?
based on that statement, I don't think the skipper can be faulted
> US Navy foiled by global warming. <
More likely it’s Russian collusion of some sort.
It appears that the ship was commissioned in Buffalo in December. The photo https://www.stripes.com/news/us/uss-little-rock-departs-montreal-after-trapped-by-ice-for-3-months-1.520135 shows ice already forming.
On the way out to sea, the ship stopped in Montreal for a scheduled stop and some repairs where it got iced in.
I haven’t been in the Navy, but I would think the Commander doesn’t decide where to dock the boat.
Instead, I’d blame America for not doing a good enough job enhancing global warming.
We don’t have icebreakers? Canada doesn’t have icebreakers?
LCS: Little Crappy Ship. Can’t fight, can’t run, can’t do much of anything. The Navy’s F-35.
Who christens a ship in Buffalo, NY in December? That is the boneheaded move that is the issue with this.
Montreal for three months? Not bad duty if you’re a young sailor ... some of the prettiest women in Canada reside in Montreal. However, what likely happened only a skeleton crew remained on board and the rest of the crew were bused or flown back to their home port.
Do they need bubblers around the ship to prevent ice damage?
Could be worse. Im enjoying The Terror on AMC. Fictional account of the real life fate of The Erebus and The Terror, stuck in the ice looking for the Northwest Passage
Who plans naval ship repairs for winter in Canada?
There are worse places to be stuck than Montreal.
"Note... to... self:....... To... avoid... further... embarrassment... for... the... Navy,... Littoral... Combat... Ships... must... be... kept... away... from... combat... and... can... only... be... deployed... in... warm... climates..."
New order from the USN: No littoral combat ship is allowed to approach anything littoral.
We have precisely two. We have a few icebreaking tugs, and none of the great lakes breakers are still in commission.
Polar Star and the Healy are it. Canada’s got loads of breakers.
We’re supposed to get some new ones. The keel on Star was laid in 1970.
The ship had just finished construction and trials in Lake Michigan. It stopped in Buffalo for commissioning next to its museum-ship namesake. As it turned out, it wasn't going to get out of the Great Lakes in time to make it up the St. Lawrence anyway.
None of the Great Lakes breakers are still in commission? Then I wonder what phantom ships have been breaking ice in Whitefish Bay in Lake Superior, the St. Mary’s River in northern Lake Huron, and the Straights of Mackinac between lakes Huron and Michigan for the past 3 weeks. I’m certain that the USCG and the CCG would like to know that they don’t have any ice breakers in the Great Lakes any more.
