A $1.3 trillion spending bill passed this week by Congress has conservatives decrying a surrender of fiscal restraint and has prompted calls to eliminate the filibuster rule requiring 60 votes for most legislation in the Senate.
Eliminating the filibuster would be a dramatic move that many Senate traditionalists are unwilling to make. But there is an alternative, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said Friday on The Laura Ingraham Show.
Lee (pictured above) said Republicans should actually make Democrats debate around the clock rather than reward them every time they merely announce a filibuster by recessing.
And then theres no consequence for them refusing to close debate, he said. If, when they refused to close debate, we kept them in through weekends, through long weeks, weeks at a time they would eventually exhaust themselves, and they would eventually vote to close debate, he said. I assure you of that.

Sen. Mike Lee says Senate does not have to change the filibuster rule; just 'exhaust' Democrats by making them keep talking till they drop.
This is spot on. We run around in circles sometimes when if we just enforced existing rules and laws, things would be better - whether it's filibusters, illegal immigration, gun violence, whatever. How many filibusters would be implemented if antagonists had to actually perform the ruled function of the tactic? How long would they last?
Strictly enforce what we have and most of our troubles would be gone. GOP? Are you listening?
Great idea but probably our own woosies in the GOP wouldnt like to give away their own long weekends either!
For this abomination of a Budget, look no further than the Democrat Party.
They own it.
I have not read the total over 2000 page budget, but two things did drop out: Veterans Choice, a program in place with the VA was dropped, as was funding for Caregivers for Disabled Veterans, so every time one of our esteemed elected officials goes on about how much they owe the Vets, remind them that actions belie their words. Lots of promises and lip service in our administration and congress, but overall they care more for illegal immigrants than the Veteran community.
1) Evict Ryan and McConnell.
It’s called “bipartisan”.
Lee is exactly right, Dems want to filibuster? Fine make them actually filibuster.
It’s not a budget but an Omnibus bill. The president can spend as he sees fit in a discretionary manner just like Obama has. Too many people on this forum and in journalism are stuck on the wrong premise. We need to get a budget for sure.
Based on the assumption the R’s want to. They don’t.
I rather see Pelosi and Schumer go.
However with defense $ off the table make them talk AND let the govt stay shutdown.
Seems like a win win
Rs cant be blamed if the Ds are the ones talking.........
The RINOs always collaborate with the Dems. The Uniparty is everything to them.
Is this source actually called LifeZette?
There is no “kowtowing” going on. This is pure collaboration. I’ve heard complaints about California being a one-party state, but DC has been just that for decades.
D'OH!
Stop responding to the swamp dwellers and Crony Capitalists in DC.
Veto bills without comment.
Let the insane Congress OWN government shutdowns. It takes two cause it.
THE TRUE CITIZENS, THE DOERS, CAN SURVIVE ANY GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.
Focus on MAGA.
ARE YOU LISTENING, DONALD?
First, they have to WANT to not align with the dems.
They could try a brain transplant.
>>For this abomination of a Budget, look no further than the Democrat Party.

Well, seeing as they are the majority party and the GOP is such a minority in Congress can’t do a thing I can see your point.
What budget?
One of the things the Democrats have going for them is the backing of the media. They’re not afraid of adhering to the position-du-jour because they won’t be criticized in the press. Republicans cower in fear of the media because they get blasted regularly in the press. I speculate that perhaps the Democrats would have less of a spine if the tables were turned and the Democrats were constantly criticized.
SO WHY DON'T THE "REPUBLICANS" JUST STOP TALKING ABOUT IT AND SIMPLY DO THAT?
