The Los Angeles City Council Friday is considering a motion that would enact a plan to provide housing for every transient in the city, as it continues to grapple with a housing shortage which has spiked rents and sent thousands of people into homelessness. The motion, introduced last month by Councilmen Mike Bonin and Marqueece Harris-Dawson, says there is little evidence that anything is being done to create or improve shelters for the homeless in the city and that a true sense of emergency is needed to deal with the problem.

I lived in Santa Barbara in the 1970’s, 1980’s, and for a year or so in the early 1990’s.
Santa Barbara’s lower State Street (downtown Santa Barbara) was a magnet for homeless people.
From my observations, most of them had either drinking problems or drug problems, and a majority of them also had mental problems.
If many of them had a house, I doubt if they would stay there or be able to maintain the house in any way shape or form.

Hosing then in the homes of rich Democrats would be nice. Plenty of those in Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and the Democrat politicians. They are so compassionate, you know.
That reminds me of a San Francisco official pointing out that they had more homeless than ever even though SF was spending a fortune on the homeless.

it would help if they had free drug clinics too...
the face of reality is many if not most of these people do not want to live with rules...they don't want to use the toilet..they don't want to wash...they don't want to have to sign in or out....mostly they just want to be drugged/drunk and able to mill about among the civilized...
I think California is going to try to do what Merkel is doing with the Muslim refugees in Germany.
Take in so many that Germany will demand other countries help out Germany by taking in their ‘fair share’.
California will start to demand other states enact similar policies to take the burden off of them.
I’m in West Hollywood. The panhandlers are everywhere. Grocery stores, gas stations, drive through at McDonald’s, off ramps of the 10, outside the Petco, everywhere.

Why do you imagine that if housing were provided for these people there would not be tremendous numbers of government bureaucrats on the public payroll to maintain that housing?
... This is nothing new .... When I was young we used to call these “The Poor Houses.” They were facilities built and used to house people who were down on their luck.
Where is the church?
