SALEM, Ore. – A recently filed Oregon initiative would make manufacturing, importing, possessing, purchasing or selling an assault weapon or large capacity magazine a crime – with only a few exceptions.
If passed, Oregon Initiative 42 would only allow owners to keep their assault weapons and large capacity magazines if they register them with Oregon State Police.
If the initiative goes into effect, anyone who owns an assault weapon or large capacity magazine will be required to remove them from the state, sell the items, surrender the items to a law enforcement agency for destruction, render the assault weapon permanently inoperable or, if eligible, register the assault weapon or large capacity magazine with Oregon State Police within 120 days.
Anyone who moves into Oregon with an assault weapon would have 120 days to surrender it to law enforcement, transfer it to a licensed firearm dealer, render it permanently inoperable or register it.
Unlawful possession or transfer of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine would be a Class B felony.
In order to register an assault weapon under the act, the owner would need to submit a form to the Oregon State Police with the owner’s name and address and identification number of the assault weapon. The owner must also allow police to conduct a criminal background check to confirm the person is not a prohibited possessor.

A little late for that. As a long time Oregon resident, I have purchased many firearms, including my browning hi power which will be affected by this nanny state legislation.
Pistols and long guns have required background checks by Oregon state police for as far back as I remember. No doubt registered at the same time.
Another Communist wannabe state on the Left Coast. Like the Marxist leaders in Washington State and California, Oregon wants to create their own political dictatorship, the voters, people and the Constitution be damned.

To legally purchase an ACTUAL Assault Weapon, you have to get a federal license and permission of your Chief of Police and/or Sheriff, depending on where you live.
Sounds like they bit off more than they could chew. This might actually fail because they couldn’t keep it more moderate. Class B felony? Please.
No place South or East of Eugene will comply.
Better still, get those nine worthless, black-robed f*ckers at the SCOTUS to actually affirm the Second Amendment without any weasel words. Everyone talks about how little Congress does, well when you put them up alongside the SCOTUS they are veritable dervishes. If there were ever a group of no-working a$$holes (and holettes) ever to be assembled, they'd be it hands down! This country has terminal internal rot in our government at all levels.
Unless it's a conservative one that wins (Prop. 8; Prop. 187), then there will be a Democrat-appointed judge to say 'no.'
