UPDATE- Weve just been told by APD the neighborhood of Travis Country is being evacuated right now. This - after 2 male victims have been taken to the hospital after an explosion in Austin. #austin #atx @fox7austin
Just read the bomb/explosion had nails. Nasty.
Stay safe.
My God,absolutely terrifying.
Bombers should be shot on sight.
.
FBI should recuse until its shown that Ohr wasnt involved.
Oh boy. Shades of Middle East bombers.
My office, like many others receive a constant stream of amazon and other deliveries. Time to get our IED radar up.
It’s surprising, if a trip wire is being used. Residents in that area should avoid touching any mysterious package at all. There are many possible kinds of switches and detonators for such devices. Some will detonate when someone does nothing more than getting close. Others will detonate when lifted or tipped a little.
It’s difficult to understand anyone having a fascination for improvised devices. For soldiers who are trained to work with those and demolition, it’s terribly boring.
Are you in Austin? If so,...
It’s best to avoid touching any mysterious packages that you shouldn’t be receiving. If you see a package that’s mysterious in any way, call the police and let them deal with it.
On packages with known and trusted sources, are you sure? Remove any metal objects from wrists or hands (watches, rings, etc.). Lift each package very slowly while looking under it. Keep each package level.
Keep each package on a hard, stable, level surface (on the ground or floor, if that’s where it already is) and avoid tipping it while opening the top slowly and looking under the flap with good light.
Cutting a small test hole and carefully peeking around in the package first with a bore light would be even better (light used to look through a firearm bore). If the contents don’t look right, don’t touch them. That’s about all that I can offer except to call police, if you see anything suspicious. Don’t touch anything of suspicious or unknown origin.
That said, touching any arriving packages in any way could still be too dangerous, if the terrorist is spoofing shipping origins known to you.
I was a combat engineer—not a real engineer. I don’t live anywhere near Austin and haven’t seen it since I was a kid (long ago). Hope they catch the crazy, evil murderer, before more people are hurt.
It’s best not to lift any package at all before opening it, really (tip switches of various kinds, mousetraps possibly under it). And remember to lift the opening flap slowly while looking for anything connected to it (strings, wires, anything).
And don’t open it at all, if the origin doesn’t look right.
Crazy time; like the panic about the Zodiac Killer.
No apparent connection btw the two, yet; vendetta maybe?
Hoping someone got the perp on surveillance video.
IMO, anyone who would like to install a home surveillance system should get on it. Start looking and reading around the Net, and look at some products for those. There are even systems suitable for using in or around rental houses or apartments (not much drilling or screwing to do if any, tabletop components, cameras looking out windows, etc.).
Remember those bad dudes did surveillance of all the kill sites previously.
So people should perhaps be thinking two weeks previous.
Hoping for a nosey neighbor who saw a package deposited.
Try your neighborhood Mosque. This is very patterned.
Makes me wonder if the bomber turns out to be Islamist or an illegal would Austinites just excuse it or would they come to their senses about the dangers they welcome with their “tolerance”?
This morning they are saying that one of these recent packages may have been by the road and tripped via a wire.
Probably some loner who enjoys the attention. Now the person is trying different things, like tripewires. Sounds like ex military. I hope not, but someone is lashing out.
They haven’t played the race card yet. Must be White dudes who are injured.
The smiley face was my first guess, too. Or all roads lead to wherever. It brings to mind the tv commercial where a man is jogging and comes home to print out his route with romantic hearts for his lady.
This latest could be a copy cat as it was random victims and triggered by a trip wire.
All evidence is being sent to ATF in D.C.
