Six Bay Area members of Congress have signed onto a letter asking the Department of Homeland Security to scrap a plan to prevent spouses of H-1B visa holders from obtaining work permits.
The department in December announced the plan, citing President Donald Trump’s “Buy American and Hire American” executive order, and said it would carry out the plan this year. The work-permit program for H-1B holders’ spouses was initiated in 2015 under former President Barack Obama.

When they begin issuing H1-B visa’s to import politicians, the politicians will put immediate stop to H1-B visa’s. Until then our politicians are servicing their corporate masters.
So why are American employers hiring them? To lose money? Or increase their profits? Or because they want to boost diversity?
Not only the H1-B workers came legally, there is a legal limit of maximum 65,000 H1-B visa’s in any one year. H1-B visa is temporary until they have a job.
On the other hand we have admitted 30 Million LEGAL Permanent visa holders through CHAIN MIGRATION, and there are 11-30 Million illegals living here. Majority of these 41 to 60 MILLION people are low skills, low wealth, and many can’t speak English.
In military they teach us to focus on bigger targets. Get my drift?

There is a big difference between hiring and allowing into the country educated, highly skilled workers who contribute and earn their money and a bunch of people who come here illegally and are a drain on the economy.

Yes they have :jobs”, many of which were formerly held by US citizens, who are forced to trainI H1 B employees and then get fired. You only have to look around the SF Peninsula, from San Mateo, to San Jose and see how these immigrants, mainly from India ,are having a negative effect on these communities. The schools are inundated with these non-English speaking people and the local hospitals have become ‘de facto ‘anchor baby’ farms. The only reason for H! B is so the Oracles and Googles can bring in cheap labor. In my humble opinion, this program should be stopped. I cannot imagine there aren’t enough US citizens with IT skills to fill these jobs....

There you go, nailed it. I didn’t even have to respond to his BS. He obviously has an agenda.
Wishful thinking is not a plan. 99% of congress critters depend on corporate contributions including uber-rich individuals who own corporations. H1-B visa program is what the corporations want. And they are getting it. Unless you can change the congress, forget about it!
But much more important point is H1-B visa population is puny compared to (chain migrants + illegals). H1-B has limit/year by law of 65,000. That is peanuts in comparison to 30 million chain immigrants and 11-30 million illegals. These people are mostly low skills, low wealth. Their only qualification was having a relative with green card. Tax payerss are spending Billions for welfare, food stamps, medicaid, public schooling, free translators (many do not speak English).

In a free enterprise system, the individual corporation has the right to hire whoever they want. Corporations do not exist to propagate justice or patriotism.
Obviously there is over-supply of IT people in the world. It is a demand and supply situation. I do not hear doctors, lawyers, scientists, nurses, robot technicians, pharmacists, police & firemen, etc posting complaints about H1-B visa cheaper workers. IT people have access to computers and keep posting anti-free enterprise posts.
If you want gov’t to force private corporations to hire more expensive IT workers, it is exactly same as Mussolini’s Fascism.
I came on a student visa for a graduate degree in engineering at U of Iowa. There was no such thing as H1-B visa when I arrived in 1960. I received my MSME degree, and was hired by a large US corporation who sponsored me for citizenship via green card. After I was a US citizen, I married a USA born and raised woman. My daughter was born after I was a US citizen and is a lawyer.
My main point in this thread is to expose the much bigger problem of chain migration which allows low skilled, low wealth people get permanent resident visa’s and immediately become eligible for ALL welfare benefits. Add to that 11 to 30 million illegals and there are 41-60 million low skills, low wealth people in the country during just the last 25 years.
The H1-B visa has legal limit of 65,000 in any one year. That is peanuts compared to 60 million. The H1-B visa people are not costing average taxpayer anything. Only people screaming about H1-B visa are those who have access to computer posting and do not like the free enterprise system which gives freedom to all corporations to hire cheaper workers. The chain migrants and illegals are costing ALL tax payers a small fortune.
And I agree, but I prefer to focus on bigger problems first. I guess it is my engineering background.
30 million low skills, low wealth chain migrants in 25 years + 11-30 million illegals is 100 times bigger problem than 65,000 max H1-B visa in any one year. Majority of low skills, low wealth immigrants are feeding at the welfare trough, which is not true of the H1-B visa people.
The Democrats are worried that it would:

1. Many H-1B workers are not highly skilled. If they were, companies like Disney would not have to provide so much training by current employees.
2. Since when do members of congress care about “significant uncertainty and hardship” of US workers?
3. These “Dollar store wages” Indian H-1B Visa holders are not vital to our economy...They are vital to the companies who want to cut salary costs at the expense of US college grads and workers.
