The U.S. House of Representatives passed the STOP School Violence Act with overwhelming bipartisan support Wednesday afternoon.
Florida Reps. John Rutherford (R) and Ted Deutch (D) introduced the bill prior to the shooting in Parkland, Florida, and Rutherford addressed the media following Wednesdays vote.
The action that the House just took, I think, is an important first help forward in protecting our children, our teachers and other administrators within our schools, Rutherford stated. Because its going to not only harden the target through technology, but most importantly, I believe, its going to provide the tools and education needed...
Violence at schools makes students feel vulnerable in a place where they should feel safe. To curb violence at our nations schools, the STOP School Violence Act provides a multi-layered approach to identify threats and prevent violence from taking place on school grounds, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte said in a statement accompanying the passage of the bill. It provides much-needed resources to train students, teachers, and law enforcement officers on how to recognize and respond quickly to warning signs and provides funding for technology to keep schools secure. The bill also provides for the creation of an anonymous reporting system to provide tips about potential attacks and persons who may be inclined to commit acts of violence on campus.
The STOP School Violence Act is a good step toward making our schools safe again. We will continue to examine issues pertaining to school safety in order to create a safer environment for our nations children.
The White House applauded the bills passage as an important step towards keeping American students safe.

Sanders also urged the Senate to vote and pass the bill as soon as possible.
The National Rifle Association also cheered the bills Wednesday passage.

.
And they didn’t just support it, their lawyers wrote the entire act.

Politics as usual.
Throw the bums out!!!
Need to dump snti-gun zone signs. Train teachers how to use a weapon plus get ex-army marines trained to walk the halls armed. Plus add bullet proof glass all the way around the school. Locked doors where you have to show Id to enter once school has started and no duffle bags or backpack allowed. Kids will carry books in there hands like we used to in high school. Only took books home that we needed for the next day assignments.
report kids who commit crimes to cops.
The NRA supported and opposed parts of the Gun Control Act of 1968, which broadly regulated the firearms industry and firearms owners, primarily focusing on regulating interstate commerce in firearms by prohibiting interstate firearms transfers except among licensed manufacturers, dealers and importers. The law was supported by America's oldest manufacturers (Colt, S&W, etc.) in an effort to forestall even greater restrictions which were feared in response to recent domestic violence. The NRA supported elements of the law, such as those forbidding the sale of firearms to convicted criminals and the mentally ill.
Again, I think your claim is a stretch, if not flat out wrong. If you can bring something to the table that supports your claim I will give it further consideration.
If you say so.
All these politicians including Trump have to be seen as DOING something about school shootings. That’s politics.
I like this and the poor New Yorker dude who wrote it whose baby girl was murddred at Park
When’s he’s on he makes more sense that 3000 politicians
The point is
Arm teachers and TELL THE DAMN NUTBQLLS who might try something
Don’t bother You’ll just be taken out
Move on to the next soft target is what the cowards will do
Like the church shooters and the muslims in San Bernie
Make schools well known as armed camps like Israel
Even if there’s only one or two with guns
I’d rather they do this psychological stuff than go around making symbolic gestures at the expense of the 2nd Amendment.
Yes! I agree.
When you read a lead in like this that jumps to conclusions without giving specifics, you are a low IQ imbecile if you fall for that and not get specific details of the Bill.
Does anybody here have a clue as to what this specific bill does? Are we all so stupid as to not need that to evaluate what our government is doing? WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
I’m hopeful, but this is pretty much what I’ve been thinking they would do.
80% of it is useless Bread and Circuses. 20% MIGHT help mental cases.
Glad to see they’re not gun grabbing.
I’m actually quite surprised at this. No one ‘appears’ to be stepping over the line as far as our Constitution goes.
Time Will Tell.
Until then? Keep your powder dry and Home School or send your kids to Parochial School. Get them OUT of Government Schools if you can!
“Thats going to take parents so that isnt going to work.”
We have that conversation EVERY evening! Beau had a dozen Foster Kids (young males) through his life and I raised three boys (one Step-Son and two Nephews) that had no CHANCE at life based upon their bio-parents. Two made it to adulthood; one did not.
THIS (shooting up schools) comes down to every OTHER Cultural Evil we are currently dealing with due to the DEATH of the American Family.
Thank a Democrat at EVERY opportunity for what we are reaping, today.
*SPIT*
Excellent post, Grandpa Dave! *SMOOCH*
GOA??? WTF???
Some Republicans may drive a hard bargain and demand that they get their fair share of the loot.
But what none of this is about is what is good for the citizens of the U.S.
I remember the days of rifles and shotguns in the Sears catalog.
