Scientists at San Francisco-based biotech start-up Muufri -- (get it, moo free?) -- have developed a formula to re-create cow milk: six proteins for structure and function and eight fatty acids for flavor and richness, according to Muufris website.
The milk product is also free of lactose and cholesterol and because its created in a lab, its seen as a sustainable alternative to traditional dairy cattle operations.
According to Muufri, lactose is partially indigestible by 75 percent of adults, so the decision to leave it out creates a healthier product. Founders of Muufri, Ryan Pandya, Perumal Gandhi and Isha Datar, claim the milk will be free of all bacteria, giving their milk an unprecedentedly long shelf life with no pasteurization required.

Three young entrepreneurs in their mid-twenties sat nervously in the Hong Kong office of Solina Chau, one of the worlds most powerful women. Chau, founder of Horizons Ventures, oversees investments for multibillionaire Li Ka-Shing, focusing those investments on disruptive technologies she thinks the world needs.
Shed been introduced to Ryan Pandya, Perumal Gandhi, and Isha Datar by Horizons consultant Josh Balk, who himself had co-founded food tech start-up Hampton Creek just a few years earlier. Now, all four of them sat anxiously before Chau as they discussed the new start-up Perfect Days big idea: producing real milk without cows.

Perfect Days plan was to make milk using the exact dairy proteins cows create, but with designer yeast instead of cowsand in a matter of mere days.
In other words, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
Phoeey!
I only allow whole milk and real butter in my kitchen.
I want to keep as many cows gainfully employed as possible.
Cows are cool!
but they are always saying that “sustainable” is the natural way, so that would seem to imply real cows. How is lab milk “sustainable”?
Absolutely. What's the point of fake milk? We already have the perfect milk factory that can not be improved on. Fake butter? No way.
I'll stick with Evangeline. She makes milk out of grass and weeds.
I only drink powdered milk from powdered cows.
I'll be the judge of that!
I feel the same way about butter. Real butter is good. I just don't buy it that margarine helps, and it tastes lousy to me. Real butter is lovely...:)

Understandable since Asians tend to be lactose intolerant
Health Hazard Milk - perfect companion with margarine!
It comes down to packaging, taste and cost.
you have a fan.
All I know is if you milk a bull you got a friend for life
Raw cows milk is an amazing food. Its a perfect food, and comes with the right enzymes for digestion. Many people who have problems with pasteurized dead milk can enjoy raw milk without any digestive trouble. In fact, after several years now on raw, I cannot digest pasteurized milk in milk, cream, or ice cream form (at least I still can eat cheese).
Its also the best base for an infant formula for adopted babies or babies who dont have access to raw human milk from a woman with a good diet. (Needs added brain fats and a few other things for our amazing human brains). Ive seen what an amazing child it can grow.
Gossner, real milk good for at least a year without refrigeration. Available at a dollar store near you.
Thats nothing new. Its called Goats Milk.
In other news,
processed food causes cancer.
