President Trumps vision of soldiers marching and tanks rolling down the boulevards of Washington is moving closer to reality in the Pentagon and White House, where officials say they have begun to plan a grand military parade later this year showcasing the might of Americas armed forces.
Trump has long mused publicly and privately about wanting such a parade, but a Jan. 18 meeting between Trump and top generals in the Pentagons tank a room reserved for top secret discussions marked a tipping point, according to two officials briefed on the planning.
Surrounded by the militarys highest ranking officials, including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford, Trumps seemingly abstract desire for a parade was suddenly heard as a presidential directive, the officials said.
The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France, said a military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the planning discussions are supposed to remain confidential. This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.
American shows of military strength dont come cheap. The cost of shipping Abrams tanks and high-tech hardware to Washington could run in the millions, and military officials said it was unclear how they would pay for it.
A White House official familiar with the planning described the discussions as brainstorming and said nothing is settled. Right now theres really no meat on the bones, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions.

Just coincidence the tanks will surround the white house when Hillary and Obama indictments drop lol
One ca dream...
That will drive many Libs right over the edge and into Bellvue.
Very bad idea IMO. Tinpot dictators stage big military parades but American presidents speak softly and carry big sticks. We have many other ways of letting foreign powers know we are strong. Besides, the Opposition is all to ready to typecast Trump as a “dictator” and this would fuel their media propaganda attacks.
Liberals hate our flag, anthem and military.
CNN talking heads ridiculed the notion of a Russian/French style military parade down Pennsylvania Ave.
Jeffrey Toobin compared it to aping North Korea.
That’s how much the Left looks down on patriotism. Just another reason to bash Trump.
How did that work out in Alabama?
I actually read the article. I expected it to be rife with images of lil Kimmie and his militaristic parades. And how Trump too wants a commie style parade, but it was actually sorta fair.
Just sorta. I expect the reporters will be fired if they don’t shape up and get back to the usual agit-prop against Trump.
Mixed feelings on this. I don’t think we need to emulate Communist China or Russia with a purely military parade, but perhaps there could be a bigger military component to some other holiday. That way it would be a regular recurring event.
How about We save $$$$ and have the Parade at Local Military Bases across the Country and not Ship Harware around?
Just a Brain Fart.
Yes. me too. I would rather watch this than the stupid Super Bowl crap.
Can’t afford a parade, but 30 million illegals choking off jobs, social services, hospitals, jails, schools while sending billions out of the country annually, is no problem.
I don’t love this idea, unless the President uses it as a distraction while he achieves something amazing in the background.
Ping.
My opinion, the bigger the parade the better! It’s decades past time.
Our military and our veterans deserve to be honored. Show our children and grandchildren what patriotism and love of country is all about.
It probably got him a few more votes.
No. We don’t need to parade around like Russia and North Korea.
Dude, no, that’s what dictators do. s#it, terrible idea.
