An Amtrak passenger train collided with a freight train in South Carolina early Sunday morning, causing injuries, the national passenger railroad service said. Amtrak said in a statement, "Amtrak Train 91, operating between New York and Miami, came in contact with a CSX freight train at around 2:35 am in Cayce, South Carolina." The statement continued, "The lead engine derailed, as well as some passenger cars. There were 8 crew members and approximately 139 passengers, with injuries reported. Local authorities are on the scene responding. More information will be provided as available."

It’s pretty disgusting. I hope some GOPers will call attention to this and focus on Schumer’s disgraceful obstructionism in a matter which affects not only the immediate safety of the riders but the public perception of the safety of rail travel in general.

If the NTSB has been politicized, and that corruption in any way allowed this crash to occur, those deaths and injuries can be lain at Congress’s door.

True. Some are. Some are not. You cannot take what ANY mainstream media outlet tells you at face value. That you apparently blindly accept what the lying talking heads say shows more about you than me.
That said, I do not like that I immediately discount everything the “news” reports. I’m trying to foment a healthy skepticism but there’s so much disinformation thrown at us daily. Case in point: Las Vegas

I don't know that it's politicized. I suspect that many organizations (public and private) have been degraded by affirmative action lowering standards. Add to that the dependence on drugs (legal and illegal) by a high percentage of the population. One can't help but wonder if competence is going to become ever more of an issue as older workers disappear from the work force.
Two trains on one track going in opposite directions have a collision. If you see that as a deep state conspiracy, you have a much better imagination than I do.
Don’t know what the operating speeds are on that track and if it was a single track operating area, but CSX was decimated by that “railroad genius” E Hunter Harrrison who died rather suddenly last month. Many thousands of layoffs and a complete redesign of the schedule and operating systems...too much to get into here...could have been a factor.
